They sometimes do that... you'll receive a letter basically asking you to call them as they don't want to lose you... at leats I have done before.

i called orange other day to say i would like to leave and get my pac code, i was asked why i was leaving and that was it, now have my pac code but undecided yet whether i leave orange or wait 90 days to see what orange can offer on the desire

Thats really good. Was it hard to get What did you ask for?
My contract is up soon and I really want a desire.

It was the first thing he offered! I said I was wanting to cancel and told him I had seen the HTC Desrire with T-Mobile for £25 a month and he gave me the deal. I was really suprised as I usually get rubbish upgrade offers :D

    Wow!
I just phoned up and was offered £30/month .. decent minutes (same as I have now can't remember exactly), 500MB internet, unlimited e-mail etc. But the phone would be £49.99 on 18 month contract (free on 24 months).
I might phone back and try and get the HTC desire free on the 18 months - I didn't push at all on that first call, just said I would think about it. I might do a bit better if I call back once my contract ends but thats not until start of May and I want it now :( I need some patience.
I have seen some better offers on T-Mobile.. but they have next to no coverage where I am. Might not tell orange that though when I call them back.

    Hi Guys

Just got offer from Orange Retentions that am a bit miffed at that hopefully someone can clarify.

The CS guy was adamant that they Orange have stopped all 12 month contracts and only offer 18 month ones as upgrades. is this true!? Bit miffed as I've always been on 12 month contracts

he offered me a HTC Desire Free plus
    800 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited web
    50 MMS
    magic numbers
    maps etc
    for £35 a month for 18 months.

have ordered it but might cancel within the 7 day grace period if I can find a better 12 month deal elsewhere.

Does anyone know if 12 month contracts are still in the system somewhere?

My last contract was 12 month too, although I'm a good 5months out of contract now...

The networks are trying to filter out 12 month contracts, as they don't make good money off them.... Average phone nowadays is £400-£500.. most people want to pay £30 pm

    £30 x 12 = £360
Fair enough, the networks get the phones cheap, but you also have to factor in the cost of the texts, calls etc you use, then the cost of the staff you ring when you have a problem... makes fornot much profit I guess.

I'm resigning myself to going 18 month, which I don't mind too much, but I'll never go 24... I'd rather go PAYG.

If you can get a new contract 24 month, why not just do that?

Someone said you can go into the Orange store and they'll do you a new contract, but keep your existing number.

I've seen 12 month contracts on e2save - i'm not sure why they're not offering them through upgrades.

I did call back just now - it was a last ditch attempt as I was about to admit defeat... until I remembered I'd lose my wireless broadband + international calls (£5/m) if I cancel my contract! So I thought I might as well give it another go.

I spoke to a really nice chap who was obviously reading through my notes. I explained I was disappointed as I didn't realise that I would lose out by cancelling my upgrade, and now all the offers seemed a bit rubbish.

He was able to offer me something much better with BB curve 8520 than the lady yesterday. She had said £22.50 on a 24 month contract for 800m +300t + unl landline + bb (had been £20 on 18m contract before I cancelled my upgrade), whereas today he was able to offer the same thing for £22.50 on an 18 month contract, which is just £2.50 more than the upgrade I cancelled.

On further discussion, he suggested upgrading my current Racoon £35 plan (700m + 100t + unl landline which I was getting at £20) and was able to add 300m and 500t also at £22.50! Which is great! So I accepted this offer of 1000m + 600t + unl landline + bb/net services on an 18m contract for £22.50.

I was really hoping to pay less, but this is definitely a good deal for me. I know some lucky peeps get amazing cheap contracts (like my friend paying £10 when he tried to cancel his contract) but unfortunately that's not for everyone! And I've learned my lesson about cancelling an upgrade to haggle - it doesn't work! So do all your haggling first! I also learned it is worth calling back to speak to someone else, even if it did start to feel like I was harrassing Orange!

I feel glad this is out of the way now!

Just really goes to prove that you don't lose your retentions credit... the maths doesntmake sense

Must cost Orange a few hundred quid to buy those handsets in....if we ignore the extra minutes you now have and just look at the fact that you are paying £2.50 extra per month..

    £2.50 x 18 = £45... so they don't get their dosh back.

Really glad yoyu got it sorted though :)

Also, £20 ish per month is ideal,if you go on £10 per month, at the end of the contract, you'll have very little power to negotiate a new deal.

Just out of interest do you have more 'haggle power' when you are in or out of a contract?

My contract is up on 12/4, and even though I have said I'd like to accept this offer (no HTC in stock at the moment) -
    HTC desire
    £35 p/m - 18 months
    1200 mins
    550 texts
    magic number
    unlimited landline
    30 picture messaging
    blue tooth headset

I'm wondering if I'd have more negotiation on Monday, when the contract finishes.

    In short, Yes.

However, if you are only a few days away, then maybe it doesn'tmake a huge difference.... easiest way to find out is to try....

The reason you usually have more power is ebcause you can leave for free, whereas if you are in contract, they can charge you to leave (rest of your contract cost), so they don't need to try as hard so to speak

Was there something on the letter asking why you were leaving or asking you to ring them?

Im out of contract on 04/05. Just been in contact with retentions to get my PAC code and they mentioned that I would be billed until the 08/05 as I have to give 30 days notice is this correct?

    I was offered
    HTC Desire Free
    800 mins
    300 text
    Unlimited Internet (500mb)
    Unlimited Landline
    18 month contract
    £30 per month

    or on a 24mth Contract
All of the above but £25 per month and £45 for phone!!

Not sure if thats such a hot deal so declined as my Mins dont go much over 500-550 and usually only about 120 texts.
Guy also said there are no contracts below £30 for this phone on 18mth contract.
These are the Good 'ol Days just wait and see!
