Dear all -would be grateful for some of your helpful advice.
I fully understand from reading the thread that the best point to negotiate a good deal is by being in a "I'm going to leave" kind of scenario right at the end of the contract. Unfortunately my phone has died, and I'm in need of an upgrade (which I'm able to do from this Sunday).
I'm on a 25/month deal at the moment and don't want to get locked into paying this amount for a long period of time, but am quite happy to agree to an 18month contract at something like 15/month (btw I'm quite a light user, and don't need more than about 100minutes a month).
Any one with experience of this kind of a situation? If by agreeing to an upgrade and new contract do you think I will have any scope to negotiate my monthly payment? Or would it be more cost-effective for me to buy a cheap PAYG phone to last for the next 3 months and then be in a better bargaining position at month 12.
would be grateful for any advice offered

After reading the posts on here K I decided to call orange for a third time. The last twice operators were unhelpful and yesterday suggested my only option was to cancel contract with orange and rejoin!! Today I got a very helpful chap(Simon) who gave me the following deal
18 month contract
Free SE K850i
500 mins per month
250 text per month
5mg mobile internet browsing
Free broadband
£25 per month
This is £5 less than my current contract for 200 mins 75 text and broadband
thanks to all who have posted on here :j

Well done slojo perseverance certainly did pay for you. I am due to give my notice to leave and request my pac at the same time in a couple of weeks. I am hoping to secure a good deal too. I am currently on the Dolphin plan £35 a month (500 xnet mins 500 text). Which plan are you currently on ? Have you spending over your monthly allowance? What advice would you give to secure a similar deal?
I was on a £40/month 12 month contract. I think most if not all months I was within my limit of minutes and texts. I called a few times and they were all quite helpful but the third one I spoke to really seemed determined to try and get me a good deal. I also asked for my PAC code when I first called them - not sure whether or not this made a difference0 -
Hi,
My contract is up with Orange - currently on the Dolphin 35 package which gives you 600 mins and unlimited texts (£35/month).
I rang up looking to upgrade with just a sim only deal and no handset. I asked them if they could match T-Mobile's Just SIM 15 sim only deal which gives 1500 mins (off-peak only) and 800 texts.
The T-mobile deal suits me better as I am looking for a low cost line rental and off-peak calls (I can use my work phone during the day).
The guy on the phone said Orange could not match that deal and promptly issued my PAC code.
I was a little pi**ed off with his attitude and he made no effort in wanting to keep my custom. I'm also a little cheesed off because Ideally I'd like to stick with Orange as I have three Magic Numbers set up on the account.
What a pack of divs.

I agree with you there, my contract is ready to upgrade and was also in Dolphin 35 18 month contract, i always would go over by at least £10 a month and when i called them the other day to see about upgrading all they could offer me was a bog standard phone which i would have to pay £20 for and still have an 18 month contract!!! When i disagreed with it and asked when I could end my contract there was no hesitation!
I have previously had o2 contracts and when i went to upgrade those they were very eager to give me various deals, and did get some good bargains!!:D0 -
ask for one of the new plans from Orange website ( old plans got £5 if you buy direct website/retentions ) with no handset 18 month dealSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

Hi all,
Has anyone managed to get an N95 8gb from orange upgrades/retentions?0 -
My experience of dealing with retentions finally came to a positive end.
In all I rang about 5 or 6 times. Originally they only offered either -
Same tariff with the LG Viewty for free
or
30 mins more and 200 texts more for the LG Viewty at £39.99
I thought this was terrible as I have been with them for 2 and a half years and my contract had actually expired.
After much haggling I have gone from -
150 mins, 400 texts (unlimited off peak texts) - £25 p/m
to
600 mins, unlimited texts and a free LG Viewty - £25 p/m
KEEP TRYING, THEY WILL BUDGE, EVENTUALLY...0 -
I have had multiple 'chats' with Orange regarding the new contract I want them to give me. I also have the free broad band (currently paying £30 a month). Thought I had to keep paying this to keep broadband but no, I can get EXACTLY the same contract (1100 texts, 650 mins) for 15 quid! Can keep free broadband as long as I am on 18 month contract. And get a N95 with 8gb card for free.
Give them a call, you'd be surprised what they'll offer. I would advise calling a few times as I keep getting offered different deals. If you ask them to log a good deal on to your profile, the next time you call the operator has something to better.:j0 -
I gave them a call again last night, and offered me the same 2 rubbish phones again so i said i wanted to end my contract, and they put me through to disconnections where the lady offered me the Sony Ericsson W910i red for free for £20p/m 100 mins and 300 texts 18 months. at the time i found it a good offer and agreed then checked out the website and they offer it on there, but have 7 days to decide on it and might give them a call and see if they can offer me a better bargain!:D
but i have found when i call up try and get through to disconnections they will try their best to keep you!!0
