Lucy do retentions allow the loyalty points to be used for the insurance for the iphone?

Nothing can be used for the iPhone.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
  • Hi all, been keeping an eye on this thread as im upgrading now, is the following a good deal??
Today i got 600 mins, unlimited tex and internet, and a HTC hero for £20 a month on a 24 month contract.£25 if i wanted 18 months.

When i said in my experience that the phones dont last that long(based on my Lg phone on a 18 month contract) he told me that my insurance would cover breakdown and i could get an like for like replacement.I joked that in 18 months time that may be the iphone!one way of getting one!

I got a retention deal when I last renewed my contract around 18 months ago, and was given an LG Viewty, 200 minutes, unlimited landline calls, and 300 texts approximately, for £10 a month. Now I'm available to renew my contract again, I've been told if I want to get a free upgrade, then I can have the same deal, but for £20 - I lose the £10 discount.

I said if that's the case they can cancel my contract, and they were more than happy to - is this normal, or could I be offered something better?

    Thanks

I'm a bit annoyed with Orange today. I can upgrade from next Saturday but my phone has now died so I called and asked if it would be possible to upgrade just 6 days earlier and the woman said 'No. Nothing we can do.' No apology or explanation. Excellent customer service!!! I said I'd pay extra fees but nothing.

I'm now thinking of switching to O2 or Vodafone. I've been with Orange 6 years and deserve a bit better than that kind of attitude!

If its that much of a problem, go buy the £10 handset from Asda to last you 6 days and then you can upgrade and get a better phone.

    Hi

Orange have just offered me a free nokia 5800 on a 24 month contract of £13.50 a month giving me 100 minutes, unlimited text and 80mb of web access.

Can anyone please tell me if this is good. I am a bit worried as the girl I spoke to said the phone only had a 12 month warranty but I would have the phone for 2 years so what if it broke in month 13!!!!

    Thanks

Rules are rules and you'd probably get the same with any network. I guess they could have offered you the option of 'buying' out the contract for the remaining days. Which would have been the 'decent' thing to offer.

But rules are rules and contracts are contracts! I know it's not good.
If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)
  • Hi futher to my last post i phoned orange again as i wasnt really that chuffed with my deal.
This new person offered me the hero phone, 600 mins (800) if i wanted, the low internet package(more than enough for me), unlimited tex, photo messages and a dongle for £14.70.She is now my favorite person!!:j

I thought this was a lot better, so it totally pays to phone again and see if you can get a better offer.

What a headache upgrading!! I was so holding out for the Iphone but the deals are so bad.

I have now gone for the Blackberry Curve 8900 (Free), 400 mins, 400 texts, unlimited landline calls, magic numbers, unlimted emails and net surfing, Free home Broadband and £22 per month for 18 months. That will do me for a while.

My contract is up completey in January. I was hoping for the same and hoping there would be a price war to get the custom for the iphone but from what ive read it wont happen.

    I like my current tariff

    600x net minutes
    Unltd texts
    Unlimited Browsing
    Magic Numbers
    £30 p/m
    18 months

But i want a good phone for free and maybe a cheaper line rental. Seems only new customers get the best deals these days
