Do you have internet access elsewhere? If you chose to take the 5800 Comes With Music (tariffs being released on Friday AFAIK), you could download the music to your PC and then transfer it to your phone, so avoiding the need to use your phone internet access.

Remember that even 'unlimited' access does in reality have a limit, and if you are planning to do lots of downloads you may even be pushing this!

If you are not bothered about a touchscreen (do you really need one?), the 6220 gets good reviews, and you should be able to get it on a much lower tariff.
    Gone ... or have I?

Anyone have any experience of when accessories agreed with a retentions deal (headset, car charger etc) are supposed to come? My phone was delivered 8 days ago but nothing has appeared yet. I was told they would be shipped seperately.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for their hints and tips, I've been reading for a couple of weeks and eventually took the plunge and gave Orange retentions a call. Thought I'd share my experience here:

My current contract, which includes 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 250mb of mobile internet access for £22.50 a month, expires on the 11th of June. I've been using an unlocked iPhone for the past 18 months but it seems to be on its last legs (poor battery life, touch screen not as sensitive as it was), and I'm getting a bit fed up of having to jailbreak it every time Apple release an update. Seeing as any contract negotiations would probably result in me signing up for another 18 months, I wanted a decent replacement handset as the iPhone will almost certainly give up the ghost in that time! Unfortunately, I couldn't find a decent contract deal at any of the phone shops so I knew that any threats to leave Orange would probably be unfounded...

I phoned up on Thursday evening, around 8pm and before I even suggested that I might want to leave, I was offered a new contract with:

    200 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500mb of mobile internet usage
    Free Nokia 6220

    for £14.68 a month

I thought this was pretty fair, as it's basically the same as my current contract but with a bit more mobile browsing (although I only use about 80mb a month anyway), for £8 less per month. I wasn't so keen on the Nokia 6220 but the retentions man wouldn't budge (I asked if there was any chance of a Nokia N85; I was told I'd have to pay £175 for it  ), so I said I'd think about it and call back.

On Friday afternoon, around 4pm I called again to see if I could negotiate a better deal. I explained that I could do with a few more minutes a month and that I really fancied the Nokia N85, and wouldn't mind paying a little more each month if they could build me a deal to get the N85 free. I was offered:

    400 mobile to mobile minutes
    Unlimited mobile to landline minutes
    300 texts
    Unlimited mobile internet
    Free Nokia 6220

for £14.68 per month, or the same deal with a Nokia N85 for £19.58 per month.

I took the latter! It's not the best deal I've seen on this thread but considering I was only on the low value Dolphin 25 contract before, I thought I did alright. It was just a shame I had to wait through the entire bank holiday weekend for my new phone to arrive!

Was due an upgrade on Saturday (3 months til end of current contract).. had my mind set a Nokia 5800 and around 100-200mins + unlimited texts, for around £15/pm.

Called upgrades on saturday, who basically said the phone would cost me £117, and that the cheapest deal she could do on the plan was £18pm for 200mins unlimited txts. Said ill leave it then.

Called retentions yesterday and spoke to a great lad, told him what i was after... he went and did some tapping on a keyboard, and came back with a free 5800, and 200mins, unlim txts for £14 a month. Awesome.

I realise this may not be the greatest deal on the thread, but i got exactly what i wanted to cant complain!

Jsut got off the phone from retentions ("Customer Relations" as they called it).

First phone call with them, got offered 400 minutes and unlimited texts for £10 a month on an 18 month contract. Said I'd think about it.

Called back and asked how much it would cost me to have a data bundle in there too - Was initially told that they had no tariffs under £45 that would give me any data. So I was just about to end the call when I was offered 500Mb data for a total of £15 a month.

I still ummmed and ahhed... Then was offered the same data for FREE.

I went for a Nokia N85, for a one off cost of £65 for the handset.

    In summary:

    400 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500Mb data
    18 month contract.
    £9.79 a month.

    ...and a Nokia N85 for a one off £65.

Am really happy with that deal, think it's about the best I could get - My previous bills were between £20 to £20 a month (on average), so I was surprised they offered me anything this good.

    Adam.

I have exactly a month left on my orange contract. I rang them today & told them that I was leaving. I said it was because I wanted to upgrade to the i8910HD but the upgrade cost was £129 with them, whereas if I upgrade through mobiles.co.uk, I get it for free.

Orange have given me the phone for free & it is being delivered tomorrow....;)

Sorry to bore you all again, but i'm just trying to get as informed as possible before I call again!

I looked at my past 6 months of bills and they've been...
    May- £39
    April- £37
    March- £41
    February- £44
    January- £43

I'm hoping to get the Nokia 5800 (with the free music downloads) with 400 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited net for around £20-25. Is this acheivable do you think?
Also do Orange ever throw in Orange care as a sweetener?

I've read in this thread that your customer band can be affected by things such as having your phone replaced in the past? I've had to get my Nokia 6500s replaced twice in the past year and a half because the software has started messing up, not receiving texts/calls and turning itself off. Orange told me this is a common problem with the phone, I don't think I should be penalised for something that is beyond my control?
  • Orange have just offered me

    Samsung tocco ultra
    200 xnet mins
    300 txts
    unlimited landline calls

    £16 a month

what do you think, accept or hold out for more and what should I ask for? dont want to push them too much!

I've looked at the posts on here over the last few weeks and gave Orange a call today to see what offers i could get, selecting the option to leave orange. Have had a contract with orange for past 3 years, have never upgraded phone since i started and never re-newed my contract.

    Currently i spend £35 a month
    500 x netowork mins and 100 texts (£30)- and 3mb usage for internet (£5)

I told her that had seen offers from 3 and T-Mobile between £15 and £25, and might also just go for pay as you go.Ideally am looking for 800 mins with 300 texts or so. Neither of these packs from 3 or t mobile included the N85, which she picked up on.

The best she said she could offer was
    700 mins, 300 texts for £24 a month
£15 for nokia N85, and £5 a month for unlimited internet access.

I did say was looking for something better, but was told that was the best she could offer. I didn't ask if it was 12 or 18 month contract which i should have. I requested for the PAC code and she said it will be sent out.

To be honest seeing some of the deals ppl have got on here i was very disappointed. Is there something more i should have said, or does it make a differnce if i actually ask to cancel the contract, give 30 days notice - rather than just ask for pac code, which i did.

Would really appreciate if anyone could give me any advice.

    Thanks,
    Will
