My advice would be to call later on in the evenings (around 8.30pm ish), because for reasons unknown to me that actually makes a difference and they seem to be able to wave certain charges last thing at night. Requesting your PAC code is always useful as it shows you are serious yet still gives an avenue to stay. In terms of ideal timing to ring them, the best deals are to be had less than one month from the end of your contract, but I would recommend about two weeks from the end.
will it still make a differences as I've given my 30days notice to cancel the contract?0 -
My current contract is the racoon 35. but i got it abt 17months ago when they have the 10pounds off from 35? So i only need to pay 25. but they reduced the price again for me after 6months. so i only need to pay 20pounds.
Well the thing is i dont mind paying 30pounds or even 35pounds to get the tocco ultra for free. Since as a new customer u can get it for free?
I don't think i m a bit rash here, I ve rang them 3 times n the answers I got from them are the same. What do you recko?
You know, if you increase your monthly tariff by £15 (from £20 to £35), over the course of 18 months you'll be spending an extra £270. Suddenly that "free" Tocco Ultra doesn't seem such good value...Will the retentions department sell you the Tocco at a discounted rate if you stay on your current monthly tariff?

No. they said no upgrade unless i pay 244pounds? so no matter how expensive the contract is i still need to pay for the phone.
it's 32.31pounds/month for 12 months and the phone will be free for a new customer0 -

i agree, 2 weeks ago, while i was still outside my 30 days cancellation period, i posted the deals i was being offered
£20 for 700 minutes unlimited internet & texts and a 5800, or £15 a month for 400 minutes, unlimited internet & texts and a 6500 slide
both times i phoned in the evening
this time, i phone at 4pm, i get offered £15 a month for a 6500 slide with 400 minutes and unlimited text, but i have to pay £5 a month extra for internet
i enquired about the samsung HD, which has just been released, and he said i'd be able to get it for £100+ provided i was on a £35/month minimum contract. told him the deal was available with phones4u for free and he said nothing to do with them (fair enough). don't understand why they'd pay phones4u to sign me up when they could just keep me for free
problem is i dont want to go with the phones4u deal as i'd still want internet & with a phone that expensive, insurance0 -
Hey there, finally bit the bullet and went for a upgrade with orange, been with them for about 5 years now.
Had really wanted a E66, E55 or E52 but for whatever reason no-one's doing them or seem to be planning on doing them anytime soon.
So I went for the E71 - need to get a decent rubber cover for it now!
Anyway!
(first time I've rung retentions in 18Months!)
The guy was REALLY good.
I suspect I'm a band/grade 5 customer for the past 6 months but he didn't say.
(the E71 is a cheaper phone now so I think that helped him get me this deal)
He sorted this out for me:
18 Months Contract
800 anytime xnetwork mins
30 day (can be canceled) Roaming Discount on visits made to Ireland (good for me as I do some work down in ROI)
Unlimited Texts
500mb Internet
18 Months Free 1GB per/month USB Dongle
All for............... £24.37 per month?
What do you reckon, as good as I think it is?
A couple of notes:
I was <> this close to going to three instead, however what stopped me was the 3 "Just like home" service is stopping on the 30th of June.
Vodafone are doing that 3 months free roaming for the summer, however no guarantee it'll keep going!
Hope this helps some people!

Same to you. Did you actually check the available deals for taking out that new phone on a new contract? It probably would have been cheaper than you think. Unless your expectations were unrealistic to begin with. If you're on, say, a £15 tariff you're not going to be able to get the Tocco Ultra for free because you're not spending enough to warrant it. You would barely spend enough over 18 months to cover the cost of the phone!
I had two Orange Contracts for over 4 years.
I recently cancelled a £35 a month contract as I wanted to move to 02 to get an IPhone.
So I now have 1 Samsung U600 that has reached the end of the contract but was on a cracking deal at an amazing £10 a month for my partner for 200 mins which is enough to keep her happy.
I rang Orange on 3 seperate occasions and was offered nothing that appealed to her so decided to cancel. I was offered a LG Cookie for £15 a month (200mins) £6.00 charge for the phone and 2 Year contract. A Nokia 5800 for £18 but again for 2 years which is a long time especially as Orange only have 6 months warranty on their phones. We were also offered several sony erickson phones but they didnt appeal as looked very cheap and errm manly lol
She quite fancies the HTC Diamond phone so we advised we were happy to pay more a month, is there any offers on this phone???? They advised best price was £40 a month and a charge for the phone. BUT I can get this for £35 a month (no charge for phone) walking into any store and that is when they said this is all we can offer so maybe it's worth getting a new contract as it would be cheaper for us. That sounded a little crazy to me but hey ho, I took their advise and cancelled.
Called 3 times in total and unable to get a HTC Diamond for under £40, but was offered it for £15 a month for 2 years and £200 charge for the phone so very politely declined:eek:0 -

Crazy_Jamie wrote: »Again, you need to reassess your expectations, which from where I'm sitting were unrealistic. Your wife was paying £10 a month. That is next to nothing. Yet you were expecting to get a high end phone like the HTC Diamond without paying? You do have to expect that Orange will want to make some money from you. Getting a 5800 for a few pounds on a two year contract would have been an excellent deal. You can't expect them to throw expensive gadgets at you when you're paying next to nothing for your contract.
I do not expect something for nothing.
Although the Nokia 5800 is a good deal, 2 years is a long time to have a phone your not that bothered about, She is willing to pay £35 a month for a HTC Diamond, but the retentions team can only offer it for £40.
However she can walk into Carphone Warehouse etc and get the phone on orange for £35 that was my only argument.
Only a madman would pay £40 a month from retentions when you can get on the high street for £35, this is a money saving forum afterall0 -

If your wife is so intent on the Diamond, she should continue on her current contract and buy the phone unlocked. It shouldn't cost more than about £300 that way, saving you £150. But then again I imagine putting the money down in one go is harder, because you see how much it is. But it costs a lot more going down that contract route."MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE?
