I rang retensions a couple of weeks ago and was offered the Nokia 5800 in a deal.
I was interested in the HTC Touch HD as well but they wouldn't budge.
Before i ring back today, can i get an opinion from people please ?

From your experiances of these new phones......Which is best. Nokia 5800 or HTC Touch HD ?

I want a touchscreen phone that has good internet , so both seem to fit.

    Looking forward to your responses.
    Thanks.

Not so much which is best as which would suit you best ?
The HTC is a very big handset, but is full windows mobile 6.1 with all the baggage that brings (good and bad).

The 5800 is Symbain 60 v4 and is a much smaller handset if you want to carry it in your shirt pocket for example. The 5800 looks just like any Nokia, so if you've used other Nokia's and liked them this will feel the same (apart from the touch screen !).

What about their relative Web browsing experiances ?

I have a Nokia 6500 slide (which i like alot, i generally like Nokia's) and have been out of contract for quite a while now.

Just thought it about time i upgraded.

Plus my daughter wants my 6500 so who's to argue ?

You'd feel at home with the 5800, the screens not as big as the HTC (but very little is !).
They both have the same connection speed. You can load different browsers on each so you're not tied to the one they come with.
In the end it's down to how big a phone do you want ? The HTC is big, I was thinking of getting one, but after I played with one I'm not sure. You can't just stick it in your pocket, you'll destroy the screen (I think it tells you not to in the booklet !).

Your best bet is to got to a store and see the sizes, you may find the HTC is right for you ?
    I'm going more toward the 5800 though. . .

The HTC Touch HD is a top end phone that does just about everything. It is also expensive, which is why they will offer you the 5800 but not the Touch HD. It is one grade above the 5800 in those stakes. Then again, if you don't need your phone to be able to do everything bar actually do household chores, then you don't need a Touch HD. If your requirement is simply a phone that is touchscreen and has good internet, then the 5800 should be fine. A Touch HD would be nice and in my opinion is the better handset, but you'll likely have to pay more to get it and it does a lot of things you don't need.

I must admit leaning towards the Nokia more than the HTC.
Mainly because i have always likes Nokia's.
It is similar in size to my 6500 so that helps.

What kind of deal could i aim for on £20 per month?
I currently have 200 min & unlimited texts.

I'd like more minutes (even 300 would do) but i'd really like FREE Data per month if possible. If i'm not offered this in my call to retensions, how's the best way to phrase asking for it ?
    Thanks

For once I applaud Orange for fantastic customer care, and I did not even need to negotiate too hard!

My contract is due to finish with Orange in April, so armed with a list of offers (primarily from T-Mobile), a wish list of want i want, including a short list of phones, I rang Orange.

They acknowledged that I was due to come out of contract, plus me being with them since 1997, they offered me 700 xnet minutes, unlimited landline, 80 MB internet usage, 15 picture messages, 100 text messages and a Nokia 5800 for £20 per month!! Oh, I forgot to mention they also threw in a bluetooth headset, which was the deal clincher for me :-) .

So needless to say I will be with Orange for another 18 months:T

I'm unsure off the top of my head how wanting more minutes will affect you. You should either be able to increase your minutes or at least reduce the cost that you're paying now, though. You should be able to get free data usage very easily. It's a very simple add on for Orange to do. I'd negotiate the minutes and price first, and then get the data usage added on at the end. If you bring it in too soon they might act like it's a major thing, when it isn't. Wait until the end and you should be able to get 80MB a month tacked on easily.
