Orange Retention Offers

  • Hi all - bearing in mind that Orange seem not to be as keen as before on renewals could someone tell me how good this offer is. All my contracts with Orange have been 12 months.

current: Panther 45 (600 crossnetwork minutes)
    300 mins loyalty reward
    200 landline minutes
    200 texts
free magic numbers (I use two numbers)
    £10/mth loyalty reward

Last year I got the Tytn2 handset for free.
This year I have asked for the N96 or HT Touch HD.

They have said the best they can do for another 12m is my current deal at £40/mth instead of £45 and the handset at £28.50. I assume they will let me have the other bens above too but haven't confirmed this yet.

    Any opinions?
  • I've just gone into my 3 month upgrade period and have been offered the following so far:

    Panther 45

    1200 x-network minutes
    500 texts
    500 mb data
    18 month contract
    Orange Care

£20 per month and free HTC Touch HD.

It seems quite good, but I still feel like I could get a bit of a better deal. I don't need so many minutes, but just need it cheaper (say £15 a month). They've offered the Racoon 35, but at the same price.

I rang and got through to Customer Loyalty - is this the same as the Customer Retention department? I went through 150 and the option that I was thinking of leaving, told the Customer Loyalty guy that I wanted to leave and get an iphone, and he offered me the deals. Is there another retention step I can go on to?

Also, what's the deal with Magic Numbers? Do these come automatically as part of the contract?

Finally, with the 500mb of data. If Orange change their policy can I renegotiate this later or will I have to pay more if this is increased?

Thanks for any help. Oh, and forgot to mention, I am apparently in Customer Band 5

What difference does the banding make?

I'm trying to get an N85 from Orange for free for my girlfriend but all they've offered so far is this -

    Dolphin 35 (£27.50/month)
    600mins
    Unlimited Texts
    80MB Data

Which is rubbish really when people are getting HTC Touch HDs for £20/month.
  • I'm not sure entirely, but they told me in the Orange Shop, and I think that the higher the band you are (based on monthly spend maybe?), the more valuable you are and thus they'll be more likely to offer you the better deals.

Did you speak to Loyalty? I'm still unsure as to whether I need to say firmly that I want to disconnect to get to the retentions department. Can anyone advise me?

I am a PAYG Orange customer and I only put £10 on my phone every 4 to 5 weeks. When I saw the ad for Virgin Mobile contract for £8.50 per month I contacted Orange and asked specifically to be put through to the Retention Team and was directed to the PAYG Loyalty Team. I told them that I intended to leave unless they could tempt me to stay. They immediately offered me an 18 month contract of 600 ANY TIME MINUTES, 100 TEXTS, UNLIMITED LAND LINE CALLS 01-02-or 03 prefix and a NOKIA 6300 PHONE. Naturally I bit their arm off and took it. I did not use the phone, but you can sell it ebay for about £50 to £60! I told my Sister of this deal as she is also PAYG. She phoned the next day and got the same deal except she got 900 MINUTES!!! These deals change almost on an hourly basis so if you don't get the deal you want, phone later. I rang 0800 079 2000 and don't forget, don't get into dialogue with a salesman, ASK FOR THE PAYG LOYALTY TEAM!

No, if you select the option for 'I'm thinking of leaving Orange' they put you through to Loyalty which is aka. Retentions.

So is band 5 higher than band 1 or is it the other way around?

And I did talk to retentions but for some reason they didn't want to give me any decent deals. It is an expensive phone, but it's not a good deal at the price they're giving it at especially when people are getting more expensive phones or equal value phones for cheaper.
  • Band 1 is the lower end, Band 5 is the highest. Currently customers who are Band 1 tend to get next to nothing, and Band 5 customers get bent over backwards for.

Is there any way to help you know what band your in?
I.e. if you were £50+ per month bills for the past 6 months which band might you be in?

Well I've heard countless times that they look at your expenditure over the past 6 months to assess you. I've also heard that you can just go into a shop and ask them what band you are.

I called Orange as I wanted to swap to a SIM-only tarrif now that my contract was up, I was looking to swap to the Dolphin 15 (200 mins, unlimited txts, £15 a month) and keep my current handset. The guy on the phone did me a deal on an 18 month contract for £10 (slightly less due to 15% VAT) a month with the same 200 mins and unlimited txts and a Nokia 6301 thrown in too which he recommended I sell on ebay (as I have a better phone that I got sim-free)

Very happy with this and at £10 a month I don't mind being locked in for 18 months.
