Best pop into a Branch near you and ask whether they can deliver your card and PIN and any other communication that can’t be done online to the Branch. I know that Santander have been offering this, for situations like yours. If your favourite bank doesn’t do it, you might try others, such as Nationwide, Halifax, or a local credit union.

Useful resource, apologies if you have seen this already https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/protecting-against-financial-abuse
  • Don't forget that even if you can collect the debit card in branch that the PIN number will be mailed separately.

Another vote for trying Metro Bank if there is a branch near you. I went with my god-daughter to open an account for her and everything was done and dusted within an hour - account opening, debit card printing, PIN number of her choice, online banking setup.

Hey there colsten thank you for your inputs, I did think about Santander for a moment. I went on their site yesterday to contact them via chat, all I got was the bot and nobody got in touch with me which initially was off-putting but perhaps if they can do the trick I could possibly consider them as my second option..maybe..

Unfortunately, no Metro Banks near me :(

Will I get the PIN separately with HSBC?

First Direct is without a shadow of a doubt the very worst bank when it comes to sending you post on account opening. I would avoid them for that reason.
Not in my very recent experience - as I said in my post, the only 2 items of mail that were sent to me from FD was the Card and the PIN.

Perhaps you had a different experience that was out of the ordinary, but it’s been nothing except straightforward for me.

PINs are always sent separately from the card regardless of Bank.

With Barclays and Natwest my card and PIN were sent in 1 letter. The PIN area was either to be rubbed off with a coin or can be seen very faintly in a grey area with lots of lines, from personal experience.

I've banked with Barclays for over 30 years and my cards and PINs have always been sent separately.
