I just tried their phone number but the wait is quite lengthy.

Has anyone tried opening a current account online with HSBC, is there a room for extra information that I can write or is it just the application questions?

I can't speak from direct experience with them but, in general, online account application processes are designed to support automated decision making, so are reliant on structured data rather than free text - you're presumably not proposing to write "please don't send anything" but what extra information did you have in mind?

I'm sure this has already been recommended, but can't you apply for a Monzo and or Starling account. All that arrives is a small envelop with the card, no other documentation or PINs. Usually within a couple days.

I would recommend starling as you can pay cash in at the post office. With these accounts you can do almost everything in the app.

Yes you are on the right lines, I was going to put something along the lines of don't send to this address (my residential address) for domestic circumstances, but please send to this address (Post Restante address), but even if there was a space to write this, a part of me will still be afraid of the welcome pack turning up at my door.

The Mrs lost her debit card whilst on an extended work trip. Phoned NatWest who said they can only send the card to the registered address on file but if she needed it sent overseas then simply do a change of address to the AirB&B she was staying at, report card lost, 2 days later change address back to home address. In that two days the new card would have been printed and sent to the overseas address.

I was so surprised called back and checked on Live Chat and all three advisors said that this was their official way of dealing with the matter.

May be more difficult to do it for the initial card but does appear some banks have fairly lax processes.

Could either of these help, I'm sure they would be able to help or advise in some way, they might even be able to be a middle-person to receiving the cards etc? Or local authority?
