  • Why Don't you use the Healthspan St Clements cod liver oil Liquid it does not taste fishy at all at rec dose it lasts 2 months £4.85 plus you get super important vitamins A+D(naturally occuring not synthetic like Seven Seas etc which is added back after refining +50% RDa vitamin E and 1g Omega 3
Each 5ml (one teaspoonful) serving contains: Pure Icelandic Cod Liver Oil of which total Omega 3 is 920mg, EPA is 345mg, DHA is 460mg. Vitamin A is 967mcg (120% RDA), Vitamin D is 10.35mcg (207% RDA) and Natural Source Vitamin E is 5.5mg (55% RDA).
    345+460=805mg omega 600 ml £8.95
taking 2 teaspoons would about match Zipvit Omega Juice for EPA/DHA content. so at 60 days supply so about 15p a day compared to Zipvits 1.3p per day.
You would also though be getting the equivalent of a tablet of Vitamin dworth a 2p so that would make a bit of difference.

  • I see from the thread that people have a problem with the Zipvit Glucosamine Sulphate 1500mg tablets. They are big, lozenge shaped and uncoated so they don't swallow easily. Those properties make them easy to break into smaller 'lumps' in your hand and you may be able to swallow these. Alternatively, the tablets rapidly break down into a powder in your mouth, particularly with a drop of liquid. Then they're very easy to swallow. If swallowing them as a powder gave any problem to the upper digestive tract then they would be coated so a quick chew and swallow should not do any harm.

I had keyhole knee surgery about 6 years ago for a torn cartilage. After the operation the specialist showed me photos of the damaged joint and said that it would be painful and probably need replacing in a couple of years. At the time my wife worked in the Arthritis Research unit at a UK University. The researchers advised 1500mg of GS and 1000mg of Cod Liver Oil a day. Whether it was starting that supplement regime or a natural remission I don't know but I've been pain free and very active ever since. As far as I'm concerned I'll go on taking GS and CLO (or Omega-3) until they take me away in a box (or find something even better).
    Nice to save.
  • ....after my knee operation - so that I can play footy again hopefully - I thought I'd check out the consensus on glucosamine/chondroitin. The thread seems to be dominated by one person aggressively extolling the virtues of one make over the rest (check for yourselves). I'd like an impartial summary of what is available to take please, without being poisoned by the so-called very cheapest product. After all 'best value' does not have to be the cheapest - thank you, Mark

Forgot where I bought my Glucowhatits but greatful for the advice..deffo does work on painful joints...and going to take me a year before I have to order again ...so buy whereever you want, Mark....the price difference isn't all that much.
Doing a 'Which' type test would be expensive.

Thanks for the advice but we are now settled on Healthspan's Omega 3 capsules + their Chondromax (which is the best combination Glucosamine we have found) + a further 500mg of Gl to make up the recommended daily dose. We obtained the 500's from Simply Supplements as they were cheaper, but otherwise we are very satisfied with Healthspan. They have a sale on at present until March which offers some very good value items. https://www.healthspan.co.uk

Apologies if you think my mentioning the benefits of using ZipVit appears aggressive. I do assure you I have no direct or indirect interest in promoting them where their products are the cheapest and best value as far as I am aware.
Readers of my posts will know that I recommend Healthy Directvia Quidco for Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol and Simply Supplements for theirOmega 3 Fish Oil - 360 Capsules 1000mg £9.99
I also mention regularly the current code (now CAR-DJ) which gets you special discount or sale price on HEALTHSPAN
So although it may appear that I am aggressively promoting one company I think this is in fact unfair.

I think your comment about being poisoned by the cheapest product is also unreasonable.
Zipvit are UK based. So not only do they pay UK tax and contribute to lowering you tax burden unlike companies who operate from tax havens, they also meet the highest standards for the manufacture and sale of supplements anywhere in the world. All of their batches of vitamins and supplements will have been tested for quality standards and the amount of active ingredients. There is absolutely no question that they could sell poisonous products or products which did not contain the claimed level of active ingredient. If there is any evidence that the companies I suggest are selling inferior grade products then I would like to see that evidence. Until I can see something which stands logical examination and is based on independent scientific analysis it's my view that Glucosamine from one supplier is identical to glucosamine from a different supplier. If you look at the standard offerings from several vitamin companies you may notice that their mixtures are extremely similar for example which makes me think they may actually all be getting their product from the same suppliers.
I cannot think that Healthspan Vitamin D Tablets 400iu at £8.45 is any different from Healthy Directvia QuicoVitamin D 400iu £ £4.95

Readers can make there own minds up as to which is best value. It's my view that unless I have evidence one product is inferior to another I buy the cheapest. Anyone who wants to be ripped off is welcome to pay extra but as this is a money-saving website rather than a money-wasting one I think any suggestion that the cheaper product is in any way different from the most expensive product has got to be supported by evidence or reason and any suggestion that any product I suggest may be poisonous is in my view libellous.

  • This is a reply to Marks post yesterday, I too had a knee op a few years ago ( yes another football injury !!! ). My knee was still giving me problems for about a year after the op. I was then recommended to take Cod liver oil and Glucosamine specifically these products by Healthspan although not the cheapest the company literature shows they are dedicated to quality sources.
I did give up Sunday football but am still playing 5-A-side twice a week and have had no problems at all.
Healthspan do give me an excellent service and I’m prepared to pay a bit extra if I am getting what could be a better product and with the help of Ted Hutchinsons posts on this site I use the codes to get the products a bit cheaper.
I have also been advised to take Glucosamine for 3 months then take none for 1 month and then restart taking them again so your on a 3 month on and 1 month of cycle. Apparently this allows the body to start producing its own and you haven’t completed suppressed the body to stop producing it. Anyone else heard of this ???
    Hope this helps.

Apologies for not reading the whole thread. I am an alternative health practitioner and my family and I have been taking vitamins and minerals for many years. We also take udos oil. I obtain my supplements from the US and I only buy top quality brands such as solgar. Taking the tax into account I still make a saving of 33% to 50% on the cheapest UK prices for the same brand. Delivery normally takes a few days only. This in spite of the fact that I can get a practitioner`s discount from a well known company in this country

This is the US company I buy from and please note I have nothing at all to do with the company apart from being a customer.

  • Hi Daveonline, Kittie, Ted, thank you for the advice - good to hear of another footballer trying to recover / keep going - by the way my 'being poisoned by the cheapest product' remark was meant to be a bit cheeky, rather than serious - anyhow thanks again best wishes Mark

I second Artmo on this. Healthspan may not be the cheapest but their quality and service is superb. They are not disparaging ALL other suppliers, but just assuring you of their own, which is fair. I believe that there are loads of so called health/vitamin/supplement suppliers out there who do not manufacture to pharmaceutical standards and we just have to be careful. You know the old saying "you pays your money and take your choice". Having said that, we have supplemented our Chondromax from Healthspan (Glucosamine+Chondroitin+MSM) with Simply Supplements 500mg Glucosamine, in order to bring up the daily dose level. Although cheaper, they are a chunky tablet and more difficult to swallow. As for the 1500mg Zipvit ones, we tried these ages ago and found them extremely difficult to swallow, like many others. Ended up crushing them, adding fruit juice - ghastly. Would rather pay a bit more for easier size.
