Thanks for everyone's help on here. Went to zipvit in the end and am very impressed with price/service and of course quidco. Trying the glucosomine hcl for a while as it is supposed to have more glucosomine and although there is no evidence on the bp, am going to see if it comes down when I change from the sulphate.
  • Hi this is my first post so hope you will excuse any mistakes.

I have it on good authority ( a doctor ) that since unfavourable trial results have been released Glucosamine will no longer be available on prescription.
Don't know how this affects people on free prescriptions. I have never had them on prescription myself but have taken them for over two years I buy mine are 1000mg 90 for £4.49 at Body Care.

I have never been able to get mine on prescription, but you are paying way over the odds for yours! Healthspan offer their new Optimex 1000mg at
    180 for £5.95 and 360 for £10.95. P & P. free. www.healthspan.co.uk
Also Zipvit and Simply Supplements are a lot cheaper than theprice you are paying, but I always use Healthspan for service and quality.

I have been using Hellenia for 6 years now. They offer a good service and cheap prices. Glucosamine 1000mg is £7.45 for 360 tablets.

Here's a link to their web page, click and scroll down to Glucosamine 1000mg/500mg.

I have been buying from Healthy Direct for several years now.

360 tabs x 1500mg cost £13.99 p&p free at the moment but they often have special offers. They have a good range of products.

Hey, I found quite a good website if you take / are thinking about taking glucosamine tablets. www.supplementscompared.com rates different products according to their effectiveness and value for money
They are fine, but no proper price comparisons. Also selective in the companies they use. ZipVit are not listed for instance.

So, two years on, who provides the best product for the price today?
I've been told that unless fish oil has a DHA of 250mg, it's not really worth it. The only supplier I can find that gets close to that is Nature's Best 1100mg fish body oil 7p per capsule.

Anyone find something better quality for same or less..?

I wish I had found this thread earlier! Seems that SimplySupplements haven't improved their customer service since 2006. I mistakenly ordered from them on 4th October foolishly believing their statemant on the website that my order would be dispatched 1st class post, ALTHOUGH examination of their terms & conditions then states that delivery can take up to 10 days, hardly seems real when first class post to mainland Europe is considerably quicker. A phone call to them only told that the items had been dispatched on 5th October and that they could take 10 days to arrive.
I would advise anyone thinking of ordering from them to think again as they are based in Guernsey and the postal service seems very haphazard, or perhaps as previously mentioned "there have been rough seas"!

I thought Glucosamine had been officially declared 'useless' last month?

I guess I'll find out what my practice think when I collect my next prescription - or not!
