How would she get into your garden? Can you put a lock on the gate so she can't get in.
No she can't now, the porch we were building is ready (well, the structure is), we have a proper door.

It's just a matter of understanding where she's willing to take all these threats.
She sounds like a proper pain in the neck and I have a suspicion you are enjoying winding her up.
How does putting one plant (so far) on your own land to give some privacy equate to enjoying winding someone up?
The neighbour appears to have a very short fuse and there is a history of animosity / lack of co-operation between the two.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

It's like a striptease. In reverse.

It’s not easy to co-operate with someone who doesn’t on the face of it appear to have much in the way of a reasonable perspective. Still can’t see how wanting a bit of privacy and taking reasonable steps to get it equates to winding up.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I think it was a light-hearted comment.
If anything, arciere seems to be trying to avoid any confrontation or wind-ups.
I fear the solitary plant was their way of building up the screen 'gently'! That's gonna be soooo self-defeating

Believe me, the only thing I would really enjoy would be doing what I like in my own garden without being spied on or threatened.

There's nothing enjoyable in waking in the middle of the night because she's screaming or she's violently hitting her ceiling (our floor) with something.

Now you've taken this perfectly legitimate action (but only one plant? Pfffft...), I suggest you need to reinforce it with a matter-of-fact no-nonsense approach. Calm and civil at all times, but putting an unambiguous line down in the sand. NO discussion. NO silliness. Just state it the way it'll be - "These plants are for our privacy because you kept intruding on it - so they are there to stay."
They threaten to come on to your land and damage them? "That would be criminal damage, and I'd be entitled to involve the police."
Kept it short and simple and unquestionable; "Do that, and I will call the police." And do so.
    It just needs to stop.
If they rant, and you just answer back, they will continue to rant. If you are ok with that, then fine. But, if - even when they are hidden behind the shrubs - they still intrude on your privacy and peace, and harass with their moaning, I suggest it needs nipping.
    Enough already.
Note down every daft comment and threat. Camera sorted now? Good. If they do cause any damage, then police on speed dial.
Cameras sorted, this morning she opened her window and started to indicate the bamboo to someone.
All comments are recorded, one good thing is that she pretty much only communicate via emails.

In regards to responding to her, I stopped some time ago. She sent 4 emails yesterday, one after the other (I guess she couldn't finish her rant in one go), making all sorts of comments, but she got nothing back from me. I guess she won't stop at that though.

I tried to have a, what shall I call it, "common sense confrontation" with them both, around 3 months ago. It lasted around 10 minutes, the husband was quite reasonable (we also covered other, long standing issues that were only discussed via email because of her), until she started to get aggressive and he had to push her inside and close the door behind. Tragicomical.
