Who can afford vino these days? It might take the edge off now but it's not going to help us come October...
I understand your point but, for some posters, a recommendation for a good wine at that price is a big saving on perhaps eating out and paying about 3 times the price in a restaurant.

Everyone starts from a different place. In my experience, many restaurants have put up prices and reduced the quality of meals. Having eaten really well at home during the lockdowns we resent paying through the nose for poor food.

Fair enough. I have never enjoyed spending on food and drink so have already pared back to the bone here. I just feel grateful that I'm not wondering when I will next be able to eat, as so ,any people in this world are.

    I agree with Maman.

Lots of people changed their social habits during lockdowns and don't go out as often, preferring instead to cook at home and have a nice bottle of wine.

I've always cooked good meals from scratch and we like to enjoy them.
We like a good bottle of wine with a meal that I've planned, prepped and cooked with love and care - I know you are not really interested in cooking so won't probably won't understand that sentiment.

I'm intrigued about this Canadian wine.
We tend not to buy German wines as they are usually too sweet for us.
We like Pinot Grigio, Chablis etc.
    Too sweet for me?

Still can’t bring myself - ever - to buy wine in restaurants. Just not prepared to pay three or four times the normal price for it when there are perfectly good and much cheaper alternatives.

You're so right @Rosa_Damascena. We are fortunate not to be in that position.

Has anyone tried the Barista premium instant coffee in Lidl?   It's £1.09 for 100g next weekend, the way coffee prices are going, might give it a try.

Aldi!  not Lidl!!  Though Lidl do have Canadian wine occasionally.

Word has it that Canadian icewines beat out the German ones in most competitions.  I'm not a sweet wine person so haven't often had them but they are good under the right circumstances.  Think it was Lidl that had ice-cider a year back.  I was intrigued but not enough to try it.

as above I'm not a sweet wine drinker normally.  Occasionally I'll be lured by a gewurtraminer or similar and have enjoy the selection we used to bring back from Alsace.  But other wise I'm with you for the pinot grigio, chardonnay etc.  The one from Aldi is labelled as "off dry" so will have some sweetness.  I'm thinking best with seafood perhaps.

It was a very good eiswein, obviously drunk in small quantities as a dessert wine after a meal and certainly not with it. All the better because it was reduced from £18.99 to £8.99 per half bottle!

I don’t drink white wine, but this was an honourable exception.

Thanks to Brie and Doc N

I think unfortunately it is likely to be too sweet for us.

Its okay - Lidl's answer to Kenco Millicano I think - but I'm not struck on either. I prefer the Bellarom one:
