The shortages of things like broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce are mainly down to the appalling weather in one of the major agricultural areas of Spain.
Lots of other crops are very badly affected.
    Nothing to do with Brexit.
    Read all about it here.

Thanks, I'd love to read the article however the link takes you via a security process that wants to "check my browser" and then sticks in a loop...

I've just made the mistake of buying Aldi's Grandessa Crunchy Maple & Pecan Peanut Butter:

    https://groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-grandessa-crunchy-maple-pecan-peanut-butter-180g/4088600449609

What a strange product. It's ridiculously runny (unexpectedly) such that I spilled a load of it when opening the jar. The taste is pretty grim too. One for the bin I think.

It does say the oils separate out, so you need to stir it well to remix the product...

It's still extremely runny after being well stirred though...

@Cornucopia - the pear flavour was around last year. I'm not a fan of squashes but diluting it with tonic water made it slightly more palatable (to me).
I'm completely a non fan of squashes due to the sweeteners now used in them and a lot of fruit juices. I have to be so careful to check ingredients even on things that look not processed - I would be perfectly happy with a sour juice that I could add my own sugar to if needed.  It's annoying as I used to enjoy cranberry or cherry juice but can't find anything palatable these days.  And I always used to cut them with fizzy water so it's not like I was actually drinking so much as it to be a risk of giving me diabetes.  And even tonic water is hard to find without sweeteners unless you're willing to pay an absolute premium price.  That said the fevertree imitations from both L & A are not bad at all.

If you've not binned it yet could it be used in baking?

    Thinking of something like this....

    Peanut Butter and Jam Thimbles

2 very ripe bananas (the riper the sweeter)

2 tablespoons of peanut butter (add a bit more if you use chunky but do go for the cheap stuff if poss)

    1 cup (250 ml) oatmeal

Mush all together.  Make into 16 balls on a greased cookie sheet and stick your thumb in the middle of each to form a hole.

Bake 350F/160C for 15 minutes (less for fan assisted)

Remove from oven and immediately a small blob of jam into each hole.

Best eaten warm but also not bad cold.

    Canadian wine in Aldi!!!

It's weird to me to see something labeled as "Canadian Wine".  Because a wine should always have a company or a varietal name.  You don't see much or any South African, Aussie etc with those countries in big letters across the label.  So I guess the Canadians are feeling they need to shout about it to make people notice.

And having noticed and being both intrigued and Canadian I had a look at the label more closely.  Lo & behold it's actually an off dry Riesling from the Henry of Pelham winery about 2 miles from where my mom lives.  £8.95 so pricier than a cheapo like me might normally spend but I do know it's a quality product having had numerous bottles from there over the years.

For those of you not familiar with Canadian wines this would be a good one to try.  It's from the Niagara area (aka near Niagara Falls) and it's the perfect climate for growing grapes to use for German type wines.  Add to that the north European immigrant population that settled there so wines have been produced for more than 200 years by people who know what they are doing.  As in any industry there's been a few mis-steps over the years - I doubt anyone can forgive the people who produced a product called Baby Duck (possibly named as a wink at Baby Cham, but worse).  But since the late 1970s and early 1980s there's been a real push to good quality wine and now you can spot the best as they carry a VQA* mark.

Remarkably, a while back, I picked up a few bottles of Canadian Eiswein in Aldi. An absolute pleasure to drink, particularly at the price.

Who can afford vino these days? It might take the edge off now but it's not going to help us come October...
