Can some kind soul summerize this thread for the rest of us, so we can know what is good and bad in aldi Vs lidl
Some of Lidl's & Aldi's products are actually identical (because they are made by companies like Warburtons or Muller for both stores).

It's not correct to assume that a supermarket own brand is identical to a 'name' brand just because they are made in the same factory. Each different supermarket will have their particualr price point and recipe preference and the factory will adjust the ingredients appropriately.

I didn't say they were.   I said that A & L products are sometimes identical to each other.

Perfectly true, of course, but there’s no reason at all to believe that brands have higher or better specifications than Aldi, Lidl, or indeed any other supermarket. In many cases it’s a poorer specification simply because people will just buy the brand because they’ve been brainwashed.
  • I've got two packs of Yogurt in the fridge, one from A and one from L.   They are identical in appearance, and they have the same basic ingredients and the same manufacturer's code.   They don't have the same nutritional breakdown, because they are different flavours.   In the range, both A & L have the same three flavours - Lemon, Strawberry and Coconut.

I know from a previous recall that they are both made by Muller, and indeed the Muller packaging is similar to A & L (it has printing on the sides of the individual pots that A & L do not have).
Or made in the same manufacturing plant as Muller?

    Don't shoot the pedant :)

    XL weekend coming up....

I'll pop in to see if they have the box of 48 tins of tuna for sub £15.  No I don't eat that much tuna but I'll probably restock our cupboard by 6 or so and drop the rest off at the food bank.

What I will keep for myself is the 1kg bag of frozen swedish meatballs for £4.99.  Lots of easy dinners and lunches too.  It also means I have no excuse to go to Ikea.  And that's always a happy thing (to not have to go - horrid place!)

I look for food that's reduced in Lidl things like bread, chicken, pork, beef. I then go round the store and buy items to complement those reduced items, for example mince I buy chilli con carne, chicken sweet and sour sauce, diced beef potato's carrots and other veg to make individual pies and freeze them. Gammon use in sandwiches with Mayo or cold with chips and peas. Pork shoulder steaks same as previous but the steak is hot.
I bought a load of mince 8 500g packs 3 weeks ago for 90p per pack as it was on the last day of use by and3 packs of 6 pork shoulder steaks £1 per pack. I have had 2.1 kg of chicken breasts for as little as £3 that's 9 breasts cut in half, 18 meals, either coated with chips and peas or cut into strips and used with rice and either sweat and sour or a korma sauce.
Someone please tell me what money is

Oh I love sweat and sour.
  • Lidl - does anyone know if England’s stores have the Burns Night food? Such as the XL haggis.

Many celebrate it in other parts of the the UK. I’m a quarter Scot myself.
