Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

Don’t think Lidl had much delivery between Christmas and today. No loo roll, no cooking oil, no bleach, hardly any cereals, hardly any laundry stuff and yoghurts had rubbish dates (average date was 6/1).
These were stuff I noticed and not on my list.
No Christmas reduced stuff bar stollen bites and Beanies flavoured coffee. Where’s the Xmas puds?0 -

For those that don't mind the prices....local M&S Food had half empty shelves yesterday at 7 pm and anything Christmassy that was left was reduced to about half price. Way over the top pricewise normally but we were happy to pick up a smoked fish selection pack for a tenner (nrp £20) for a special dinner tonight. The Aldi I was in this morning had supplies of everything as far as I could see, fresh fruit and veg with dates in 5/6 days time, didn't look for reductions though I noticed some bread and rolls with 30% off...0

Correction - our local stores (Bournemouth area) don't appear to be open on Sat but will be on Sunday. Other locations may be open though. A colleague's sister lives 5 min walk from Lidl in London (didn't say which area) and it was open on Sunday when all the rest of the country's stores were closed.
Think Scotland's A and L will be closed on 2 Jan.0 -

Even where products differ, they sometimes remain so similar that they normally require taste-testing to distinguish them. Prices are often the same between the two stores, and they are fiercely competitive with each other.
What product areas are you interested in? People may have their own favourites in those areas.

The only difference is that at Aldi and Lidl you'll pay 25-30% less for pretty much the same things sold at Tesco and the other majors.2 -
I always assumed the thread was more about recommending products that Aldi and Lidl sell that are every bit as good as the major supermarkets but much cheaper and so better value for money. The thread dates back to when many people were reluctant to try the discounters. Since then Aldi and Lidl have also hugely increased their product ranges as people said you couldn't do a full shop there. We still get an occasional Waitrose addict. 🤣
