I think that if you have access to both A & L, then A is somewhat more accessible than L for newcomers to the "discounters".

Oh - meant to mention......HIGH RECOMMENDATION for Lidl Pepperitos.

These are sweet, seedless peppers - pointy ones, in a bag with a mix of yellow and red.  They are not very large so there's about 10 in a bag but one of these little beauties is perfect for me to slice to top a salad for one.  Nothing wasted except a small slice off the stem end.  No seeds so no mess.  And, as I recall, 89p for the resealable bag.

I normally will get one of the mixed bags of sweet peppers as looking to be the best value but inevitiably waste a half a pepper as a whole one is too much and there's no room in the freezer to put the excess.  Got to go shopping tomorrow (need to hit the charity shops to drop off and see what treasure may have been deposited) so will def be looking for these little lovelies again.

And while I'm there going to see if the pre Christmas art supplies have been discounted.  Got my eye on a couple of water colour refillable pen kits.  £5.99 each and I need to get 2 to get the full variety of bottles of paint.  Art classes start again on Monday (cue the Pointer Sisters!  I'm so Excited!!!!)

Unfortunately the pepperitos are no longer on special and cost me £1.89 for the bag.  Still nice though.

And meanwhile - for those who insist on posh.....OH has been very pleased with the Lidl fruit cake over christmas - you know - the small brick with white icing.  He bought a couple extra when they began to run out to tide him over for a bit.  But I was in M7S and saw the same type stacked up at the checkouts.  25p each so got him 2.  At first he said he didn't really need any more and when I told him the price he asked why I'd got only 2.  No pleasing that man!!!

    Aldi are clearing sun lotion 50ml bottles F30 & F50 for 9p.
These had been reduced to 35p some time ago.
    Water resistant and 5* UVA.

Brie has been missing from the cheese section since before Christmas.
No multi packs of their crisps either.

We have Brie, although it is a different brand - "Tours de Paris", with a picture of the Eiffel Tower on the front.

Crisps are a national problem, not just in Aldi.  Walkers haven't been able to produce at full capacity since October (they messed up a major upgrade of their IT system) and the other manufacturers haven't been able to keep up with demand.
Plenty of Burt's roast beef, lobster in big packs as well as Aldi's own big packs.
    Just not the multi packs.

Yes, because Walkers make relatively few big packs and lots of multipacks - so they are what is missing from the market.

It's not been a supply issue until this week.
I'll see what stock is like in the next few weeks.

Can some kind soul summerize this thread for the rest of us, so we can know what is good and bad in aldi Vs lidl
Some of Lidl's & Aldi's products are actually identical (because they are made by companies like Warburtons or Muller for both stores).

It's not correct to assume that a supermarket own brand is identical to a 'name' brand just because they are made in the same factory. Each different supermarket will have their particualr price point and recipe preference and the factory will adjust the ingredients appropriately.
