Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

Picked up a bottle of the Hortus rhubarb and ginger gin liqeur this morning priced at £8.99. We checked our receipt afterwards befor we left the shop and it had been put through at £14.99, so I got an assistant to look at the shelf and the price tag. She said that they were not the same thing and a customer must have put he bottle in the wrong place, so I asked why there were three othe bottles left, exactly the same. I also asked where the £14.99 price tag was - no answer, she called a supervisor, who maintained exactly the same thing. I left the gin and they refunded my £14.99.I got home and Googled the product, turns out I was right. What are they playing at?

One word: accessibility. Two word answer: mass market. Three word solution: common shopping demographic. I could go on...Farway said:
Never saw it, but seems a cheap shot, choose a known cheap store versus a an expensive one, why not compare with Fortnum & Mason's plus Harrod's while they were at it?maman said:I watched a programme last night ( called Tonight on ITV?). They compared a trolley of Christmas food from Aldi with M&S. The Aldi trolley was (in round figures) £40 but the M&S was £124!!!!. I know where my Christmas food will be coming from. 🤣No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I think they compared a range of High Street stores and these were the extremes.Farway said:

Whatever your point is, I don't think M&S food is 3+ times better than Aldi.2 -
Am sad to say that the £10 off £40 spend excludes alcohol. I could see myself having several big spend ups until I read the small print.andygb said:Picked up a bottle of the Hortus rhubarb and ginger gin liqeur this morning priced at £8.99. I saw the small print. Normally spend around £23-27 a week there. A cheeky gin - their Hortus London Dry is probably the best supermarket own label LDG I have tasted. Such a shame.Rosa_Damascena said:

Though if you do get Tesco vouchers through the post - it says excludes alcohol on the T&Cs but go through self scan or scan and go and the coupon works with any alcohol! As have bought wine, beer and spirits with them .I just buy one boozy item. Don't get many of them - probably two lots of 3 or 4 weeks worth. I usually buy DVDs, a history magazine, clothes and puzzle books with the coupon too.2 -
I would raise that issue on this form. https://customer-service.lidl.co.uk/SelfServiceUK/s/contactsupport?language=en_GB If you have the receipt or Lidl Plus digital receipt upload photo of it.andygb said:Picked up a bottle of the Hortus rhubarb and ginger gin liqeur this morning priced at £8.99. The retailer, it's definitely the retailer's faultBrie said:

Aldi frozen cod loin wrapped in bacon £7.99.
Thought we would try it as a treat.
Not a pleasant experience.
Full of large bones & the cod was nearly tough.
Yuk.

It doesn't need to be 3+ times better. If it is noticeably better, to you (and this is clearly subjective) then it's a case of whether you are happy to spend the £ or not.maman said:
