Your right, not a trace of butter in it. I usually look at food labels, but stupidly assumed that Scottish shortbread to be a protected food title and contain 3 simple ingredients: flour, butter and sugar, just like I made it in Home Ec over 40 years ago!

I don't know what's going on with Lidl but the stock levels of many items is low or non existent in the 2 nearest stores to me over the last few weeks, reminds me of the COVID outbreak

Building of the new Lidl near me is now finally underway, and the roofline of steel girders has emerged above the Lidl-branded fence surrounding the site.
This will be really handy as the other Lidl in the area is a bit small and can get very busy.

I'm finding stock levels in both Tesco and Lidl are low. Tesco yesterday had numerous empty shelves in almost every department.

Same with my Aldi, a friendly staffer told me they'd recently changed to a new "Just in Time" stock ordering system which doesn't allow the branch to adjust quantities, so fresh stuff will run out quicker...I've yet to see if it extends to chilled meats, and if it does and the dates are ever shorter I may look elsewhere as with quality dropping the lower prices over Asda aren't always worth it.

Worth knowing, especially given the produce shortages farmers have been warning us of. Looks like its a case of "you snooze, you lose"!
@Cornucopia - the build will move fast now! It wouldn't surprise me if your new Lidl wasn't on schedule for opening on BH Monday. Its also likely to be a much better shopping experience than the older branch, old Lidls are visibly grotty these days.

That stuff should not be allowed to be called shortbread. And the factory is only just in the highlands ! It seems they do make some proper shortbread under the Campbells name but have branched out into the cheap pound shop market - must be rubbish if they won't put their own name on it !
Two "proper" shortbread bakery typical ingredients -
Walkers - wheat flour (wheat flour, calcium carbonate, iron, niacin, folic acid, thiamin), butter (milk) (29%), sugar, demerara sugar (4%), salt.
Dean's - Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Salted Butter (31%) (Butter (Milk) Salt), Sugar, Maize Starch, Salt.
Lidl have Dean's at Christmas - in Scotland anyway - and we always stock up as it has a long shelf life.

Agreed, but none of the commercially made shortbreads can touch my wife's for flavour and texture. The only problem is that its shelf life rarely exceeds 10 minutes!

I think I may have been fooled into thinking it was Walkers by the tartan packaging. I normally pay attention to ingredients but didn't anticipate this to be so far removed from the 3 ingredient recipe.
There is something I can recommend, and that is this ice-cream. Unashamedly ultra-processed, there was none of the Deluxe Madagascan vanilla (Belgian chocolate only) last week so I picked this (?for £1.99) and ate it knowing it was not going to do me any good whatsoever:
