That was our plan - but without a fruit cage we lose too much fruit, so we decided to go for the frozen option. Hope it grows well for you.

For people who have had both, any views on which are better between the Aldi and Lidl mini magnum ice cream copies and how they compare to the real thing, particularly in terms of the ice cream itself?

We used to enjoy the Aldi ones several years back but don't have a store near us since moving. Lidl's are very good - frankly I can't tell the difference between them and actual magnums. Not quite what you asked of course!

I find Lidl's Magnum/Cornetto type fakes better than Aldi's. The ice cream is creamier and they just taste better (to me). Like Brie, I find it difficult to tell Lidl's Magnums from the real thing (Cornettos not quite the same, but very good).

Ok not Lidl or Aldi but thought I'd report on the Tesco peanut butter. I stopped eating it for a year or two after buying and returning a duff jar but decided to give it another chance and it again became my afternoon treat to have some on toast or to make a 1 slice sandwich. And it's been fine.

I was getting low so nabbed another jar last week and was surprised that they had switched back to glass with a metal lid instead of plastic jar and lid. Did a label comparison and was additionally surprised to find it now has only 1 ingredient - peanuts!! Previously there was salt, sugar, palm oil, etc.

Had occasion to finally open it today and the first surprise was that there was a layer of oil on the top and no protective foil/plastic seal. If I'd known I would have opened the jar keeping it level or at least over the sink!! Slight mess to tidy up. Then I realised I needed to give the whole thing a good stir which I couldn't effectively do as my little knife was too short to reach the bottom of the jar. I did my best and then tried to put the pb on the bread - well I could have easily poured it!! Stirred some more to try and thicken it up and eventually got my half sandwich made.

Taste is fine, not radically different than previously as I had worried this would taste too much like a fancy organic brand which is not the sort of stuff I was raised on. I think it will improve with a better stirring about but am worried about how messy it might be in the cupboard and I'm considering storing it on a saucer to keep things tidy.

Not the mini versions as I don't but them, it I can say that of Aldi's Magnum dupes, the Salted Caramel and the Coconut and Mango flavours have much softer ice cream than the White/Milk/Mint versions…rarely shop at Lidl so can't give a comparison though.

Thanks that’s good to know re the cornettos as used to buy the real ones many years ago but not had one since so may give the copies a try.
