are they pickled? if not how long do they last once opened? have you ever simply heated them up to use as a veg?
I love pickled beets as well as cooked ones. What always amazes me is that it is nearly impossible to get a full bunch of uncooked beets with the greens still attached - if they are on when they arrive at the supermarket the greens tend to be cut off before putting them on display. The greens are a marvellous thing to cook and eat - a lot like spinach but with a beet flavour too - serve hot with a nice knob of butter!!

Visited Lidl today hoping to pick up some of their Gelatelli ice cream (which I'm tempted to say is some of the best shop-bought ice cream you can find thesedays - it's very good). Currently on offer for £1.99 a tub. Hoped to find some Vanilla Pecan Crunch, but that seems to have been replaced with Pistachio flavour. An initial taste test seems very nice.

Not sure if the Aldi v Lidl shortbread fingers has been posted on this thread previously (the search tool for the forum is awful), but did find this post. There's been a few of those "best supermarket shortbread" articles at various points, so for anyone interested the All Butter Shortbread Fingers in Aldi (now 95p, not sure if Lidl's have went up again since?) often come top or high in the taste tests.
For less than £1 they're a great buy and far tastier than the Lidl version. They are slightly sweeter and softer/crumblier, the Lidl shortbread is quite hard for shortbread, and isn't as sweet, I have a sweet tooth though, and can taste the salt in the Lidl variety.3 -
Yes, the prices of both are now 95p each. Aldi is definitely superior, and the light sprinkling of sugar on to also makes a difference but I don't say no to Lidl's either.
In an attempt to economise - don't judge me - I bought some of these in a discount store for £1.25:
They are conjoined, small, thin, hard and weirdly a bit crunchy!! (I expect shortbread to be thick and crumbly). They don't melt in the mouth, but I suppose would rate well amongst tea dunkers. Could I be so uncouth…?

Oooh yes forgot the wee sprinkling of sugar on top! As for the economising, basically you're getting a 300g of biscuit for your £1.25, good enough for dunking in tea, but not really worth it when you can get 210g of nice shortbread for 95p 😆
I don't economise, once a year (at Christmas) I treat myself to a box of the M&S assorted shortbread in the blue tin, for some reason the shortbread fingers in same packaging, don't seem worth the extra 20p over the Aldi pack, but £6 (or now £7.50!) for the tin seems worth it as a treat!

These are the ingredients shown for one of their ‘shortbreads’:
Wheat flour (with calcium, iron, niacin, thiamin), vegetable oil (palm oil, rapeseed oil), sugar, cornflour, butter (milk), full cream milk powder, natural butter flavour (milk), salt, emulsifier (E481), raising agent (sodium bicarbonate), natural colouring (β-carotene).If that’s the rather unpleasant mix used for yours, it explains everything. This is not shortbread!
