Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I certainly agree about the crazy prices but I find I rarely see anything that's good value in Poundstretcher any longer, certainly not in their food and household goods. Previously, I used to often find bargains on tinned pulses, pickles and jams and buy most laundry items there.Rosa_Damascena said:
@robrymond - I popped into Poundstretcher yesterday and was taken aback by a basket of McVities chocolate biscuits. The packs looked to be about 400g and cost £2.99!! Prices are just crazy.
I use Aldi prices as a guide for what's good value and, as they have a branch next door to Poundstretcher, I invariably find what I need in there.
That's except for the chocolate which is out of stock. In Lidl today it was £2.29 for 125g of the 70% cocoa. ☹️

Good job I went in for branded dishwasher salt then! Its counterintuitive to my scientific mind, but given the prominent sticker on my DW, if I can eke out its life by careful use them is worth paying a little more for a brand.maman said:

Thats interesting @Rosa_Damascena. I have a new dishwasher and, of course, they recommend various brands including their own cleaner etc.
I've been happily using Lidl's dishwasher products in previous dishwashers. I particularly like their salt as the box is so easy to use.
However, this new integrated (my first) AEG dishwasher seems to be using inordinate amounts of salt, far more than ever before with Bosch.
I always thought salt was just salt. Maybe you have a point? 🤔2 -
@maman Lidl's DW salt is less than half the price of Finish and if its just as coarse, yes it makes perfect financial sense. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

For those fond of eggs, are we going to see a glut of them or a shortage / price hike this Easter? The US gets theirs from Turkey and China! Which means if there is black market demand there, prices here will go up. I don't like eggs myself, but I do like economics :vMACKEM99 said:

Would try a turkey egg, but a china one would be too hard.Rosa_Damascena said:For those fond of eggs, are we going to see a glut of them or a shortage / price hike this Easter? apparently in the US there has emerged a chicken renting industry due to the high price of eggs. So you as an urban resident rent a bird from a local hen expert and thus get your eggs for "free".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
