“Question over future of Aldi price match schemes’ as Sainsbury’s joins Tesco in scaling backSainsbury’s has removed 115 products from its Aldi Price Match scheme since November, according to analysis for The Grocer” Tesco and Sainsbury are busily removing more and more products from their Aldi price match scheme. Digging a little further into this, one of the key reasons for Tesco having dropped so many items is that they were caught out by the BBC recently for cheating! “Stainton – who closely monitors supermarket price-matching schemes – said he believed the reduction was also Tesco’s reaction to a BBC Panorama investigation in September. The programme looked at 122 products in Tesco’s campaign and found 37 contained less of the main ingredient than Aldi’s. It put the spotlight on Tesco value tier own brands, such as Hearty Food Co, in particular.” Interesting too that the CEO of Tesco absolutely refused to answer questions put to him about the alleged cheating. Moral: stick to Aldi and Lidl, and don’t get conned by Tesco! 5

New product at Aldi: Nordpak Plant Based equivalent to the product that is spreadable "butter".
Slightly cheaper than the similar butter-based products at £1.95 for 500g.

I never really understood the "we match some of our prices to Aldi", I've always felt it's more an avert for Aldi.Doc_N said:“Question over future of Aldi price match schemes’ as Sainsbury’s joins Tesco in scaling backSainsbury’s has removed 115 products from its Aldi Price Match scheme since November, according to analysis for The Grocer” Tesco and Sainsbury are busily removing more and more products from their Aldi price match scheme. I saw an excellent YT video today comparing 4 brands of tomato soup. Only 2 brands had 89% tomatoes - Heinz and Aldi (Lidl wasn't included). The Tescos "Stockwell" brand had 0% tomatoes - it was made with puree.4

It's not just that it is made from Tomato Puree, but that the puree content is only 55%.General_Grant said:What is tomato puree if not tomato?
I thought that it was interesting that we've been talking on and off about these price comparisons with A & L, and how they are price comparisons, not quality comparisons... and here's a direct comparison of ingredients that appears to confirm that argument.

They’re widespread - or at least they have been. Possibly they’ve now had to withdraw the worst examples after the exposure by the BBC. That’s what seems to be behind the recent dropping of 150 price match claims. The oranges used by Tesco, for example, were Class 2, but the Aldi ones were Class 1.Cornucopia said:

I see these claims as little short of fraudulent.6
