Brie said:Sorry the cabbage was a disappointment Rosa_Damascena. I like a nice pointed cabbage and one would be lovely for the bed to steam a pheasant on. Wonder if they would do for cabbage rolls? Normally a round cabbage is needed but it should work ok. Otherwise just shred and steam and top with some butter????
re cabbage rolls - in case you haven't made them before. I normally go for the meaty ones as I'm a carnivore but these might suit you better. Vegetarian Cabbage Rolls Recipe: How to Make ItNo man is worth crawling on this earth.

meanwhile at Lidl....I picked up some Sauv Blanc from Chile which is quite nice. £5.99 a bottle but there was a "buy 3 and get 30% off". So basically 1 bottle free. Seemed very MSE to go for it. stopped in Aldi today and spotted that they have frozen whole lobsters. Not huge but enough for a good treat. I expect they had bought them in for Christmas but the delivery was late as neither OH or had seen them prior to today.
Anyways - in with the seasonal stuff. RRP is £5.99 but they're down to £3.99. Lidl had lobster before Christmas at £9.99 - likely bigger.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Aldi have introduced their own version of Vimto (don't know how long they've been doing it, I don't usually look in the squash section of Aldi) and I gave it a try since the litre bottle is marginally less than a third of the price of the 3 litre bottles of Vimto. It's not good, has a nasty chemically taste that the real deal doesn't.3

There were some heavily reduced Xmas goodies still left in my Aldi today. I swerved the mince pies because they were best before 9 Jan (although I did pick up on box in Sainsbury’s yesterday with a March date - meaning I will have managed to eat mince pies for 6 months!!). In Aldi I did buy two boxes of the dark chocolate lebkuchen for 49p each; these have dates out to end of May. I’m not really a believer in Christmas food only being for December - I just see it as any other treat to be had in moderation!6 -
Lean pickings for me in the ex-Christmas goodies in Aldi...
- Chocolate coated Gingerbread Men 49p (BB 30/6/25) (These are soft gingerbread, not crunchy).
- Large Lebekuchen 49p (also BB 30/6)
Elsewhere, Sandwich Thins (standard varieties) are now 49p (reduced from 69p, and they were as high as £1.09 in the inflationary maelstrom).
New product at Aldi: Orzo Pasta (tiny pasta bits pretending to be rice). 500g for 79p.3 -
