Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I saw "new" sourdough pizza bases in Aldi today for £1.59 which I was tempted to buy but thought a bit expensive in comparison to alternatives. I usually buy the 4 pack of part baked baguettes for 85p or often make my own.
Still buying vanilla latte sachets and pain au chocolats even though there had been a price increase works out at 29p a portion!

I notice that Aldi Maris Piper potatoes went from £1.79 to about £2.25 in the space of a week at my local store1

been annoyed of late that the butter with sea salt we get from Lidl is difficult to unwrap. Well unwrapping isn't the issue but there's always a portion of the wrap that is lodge directly down in to the butter so it's takes a knife to slice out some of the butter with the wrap. Happened to be in Tescos and knew I needed butter so I but their similar product which costs about 40p more. And same problem. Obviously all from the same factory in my opinion.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Aldi has got all kinds of Christmas treats in atm, and are giving noticeably less shelf space to mince pies, Christmas cakes, panettone, stollen and the like this year. I think they have worked out there is more profit to be made from items that take up less space. Lidl by contrast seems to have maxed out on scented candles, I can't say I was taken with any of them.
I am sticking to nuts rather than UPFs but won't be saying no to Irish Cream. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
as for the Irish Cream. We have somehow managed to finish off the bottle of Baileys bought for this Christmas and the OH discovered that the one bought for last year hadn't yet been opened. Yes that has sadly now been drained as well.
Must say it's one thing where I go for the named brand - I like Baileys and not the Ballycastle or whatever L or A call their versions. I've tried some of the newer versions of Baileys but am happy to stick to the original. Unless of course I can somehow find the recipe we had to make my own. That was always nice too especially as it was a fraction of the price. As I recall it was a combo of something like vodka*, Camp coffee and cream so had to be used fairly quickly - which was never a problem of course.
*something like vodka was actually labelled and known as "Alcool" which is just a french word for alcohol. So it was just a non branded white spirit without any flavourings added. That's what made it so cheap to use in making liqueurs. I really must see if I can find that recipe book.......I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I'm posting this question here as I don't seem to be able to begin a new thread in this part of the forum.
I'm aware that Lidl offer the boxes of fruit and veg which are not in their prime for £1.50.
In Sainsbury's over the past couple of weeks I've seen there is a stand by the fresh vegetables which indicates they are offering similar boxes but at £2. There have been none available when I've been in and I wondered whether other people had noticed this addition to Sainsbury's offers and had actually seen any produce there.1 -
I've seen the boxes in Sainsburys @General_Grant but, as you said, very rarely any available. I'd put it down to me shopping late afternoon. 🤔2

They had some of the boxes in my local Sainsbury's quite a long time ago. The stand is still there but not seen any boxes since.
