  • I wonder if the 20%/50% will last, or Aldi will copy it.
If they can still shift stuff with the higher price (because of the lower discount), they will continue with the new percentages.  (Just as they haven't brought back the 20p and, was it (?) 90p and £1.50 stickers.)
I don't shop at Aldi (not convenient location) but see no reason why they would not follow Lidl.
I rarely saw a 60% in my local Lidl, yesterday there were a fair few 50%, gave me the impression that some people aren't going for the 20%. I was one of those, would have picked up a 30% item  but refused the 20%

  • Going back to UPF I just love the Low GI loaves in the fresh bread section (even though they are now smaller Grrrrr).

    I looked up the ingredients

Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Water, Seeds (Sunflower Seeds (8%), Linseed (4%) Pumpkin Seeds 2%), Wheat Gluten, Rye Flour, Yeast, Oats, Wheat Bran, Sugar, Burnt Sugar, Salt, Emulsifiers (Mono- and Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids, Soya Lecithin), Wheat Malt Flour, Whey Powder (From Milk), Dextrose, Flour Treatment Agent (Ascorbic Acid), Raising Agent (Disodium Diphospate).

    Emulsifiers sound nasty.

Disappointed that Aldi seem to have discontinued the High Protein sandwich thins. They still have brown, white and best of both but not my preferred choice. Anyone know if Lidl still have them? 🤔

And it’s ingredient lists like that, covering pretty much all supermarket breads, that have finally shifted us back to our Panasonic breadmaker again. It now makes all the bread we eat, cheaply, easily, quickly and with wholly natural ingredients - excellent bread at a fraction of the price of the supermarket equivalent.

Pretty sure I saw them last week.
  • Aldi red stickers are still 30%, I didn't see any 50% or 75% but then I tend to see them only in TGTG boxes. Aldi was choc full of Christmas goodies including light up decorations, advent calendar and gonks in the middle aisles. The Ballycastle one looked interesting but £11.99 for 24 chocolates and 3 small doses of liqueur was just too much. Someone had thoughtfully busted into one and helped themselves to some of the contents so I could see the size of contents.

I came across my favourite cake at Lidl with 20% off, which is just not enough to nudge me to buy it. 30% however was!
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

    Went to Aldi this week.

They had a bigger pack of wagyu meatballs which worked out better value than Lidl.

Couldn't resist a few Christmas products.

The Xmas tree milk chocolate biscuits went in the cupboard for next month.
I've bought equivalent from Lidl for years, but last years pack weren't up to previous standard.

The tree shaped salted tortilla chips were opened, honestly they are the best salted tortilla chips I've ever had. I'll be buying more.

  • Has anyone else noticed that some products taste more oily nowadays at Lidl?
A change to frozen waffles, really oily taste now, think the product might have changed as it now says it can be toasted. Been happy with these for many years until now.
The frozen garlic chicken kievs seem to have gone the same way. Just tastes of oil and very little flavour otherwise, used to be really tasty although I haven't bought them in a while.
Is this another way for them to reduce costs rather than put up the price??? I don't live on this type of stuff but the oil taste honeslty makes me want to vomit and puts me off food in general. Are they trying to poison us?

Lidl frozen Harvest Basket hash browns used to be my favourite, but the pack I got recently have clearly changed they take forever to cook, are a different colour and slightly unpleasant texture.
I decided to feed the rest to the birds!

Were they more oily? I'm having oil issues with some products that used to be nice.

New product at Aldi (well, it has the "I'm new" label)...   Choceur Cake Bars (Milk Chocolate).

I'm sure there is or used to be a Galaxy cake bar that was very similar to this.   It's a light sponge topped with fondant and covered in chocolate.   Not huge, but nicely luxurious.   5 bars for 99p.
