Just bought some Toffee Apple chutney from Aldi (now middle-aisle, as it must be a Bonfire Night ltd edition). No idea what it might actually go well with though, lol. Anyone tried this? They also had a Ginger Chilli flavour, and Pumpkin Spice flavour also.

Also: Aldi Caramel Sticks and Cinnamon Pretzel biscuits are amazing (£1.49 a box). Just like Danish Butter Cookies. Very, very nice. Can be found in the Christmas aisle.

Finally: just made some pakora-burgers today, with Aldi's Pakora Mix (currently middle-aisle, as part of their Indian food promo). 79p for a box (makes 8 normal pakoras). Worked pretty well and tasted OK (though I'd recommend adding some chilli, to give them a kick)
  • I noted the new chutneys yesterday and bough the chilli ginger version. Plan to have it with crackers and cheese in the same way as I usually do with Christmas chutney, or stick it in a sandwich to add a bit of interest. The other 2 versions looked even jammier so thar is where I draw the line!

The pakora mix you refer to - I bought a couple of boxes a while ago, even though a) I don't cook and b) the batter is easy enough to create from scratch. It was well in date but reduced 79p 39p 9p!

No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Yes, I actually bought these for 9p each too, around 6 months ago (but they're back in stock again). I notice Aldi now do big markdowns for random items. But recently, I keep missing out.

Also: just remembered, Aldi also have bottles of Leffe Belgian beer (Blonde and Brun) on sale for £2.79 each (Morrisons nextdoor has them at £3.75, so a decent saving).

Noticed in Aldi today that some fruit and veg that was always a fixed price is now being charged by weight, eg a single banana used to be 16p, and a red or white cabbage used to be 69p irrespective of size...both now charged by weight so my cannonball red cabbage was charged at £1.55p!

Another one to watch is Lidl & pineapples I have seen both per piece ie 99p usually small or per kilo weight when they are larger.
    Can easily be caught out.
Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.Thats what I keep telling myself :-)

I bought a bottle of Lidl's Batt's tomato ketchup, which not only has gone up to £1.05 but is also now quite thin. Has the recipe been diluted?
I'd noticed that the new bottle was taller, but didn't think anything of it till your post. In the old bottle Water was the first listed ingredient but now Tomato puree is, and new one has less sugar but more salt.

Can't believe I'm posting about ketchup....

I'm a fan of most Lidl stuff but their ketchup is a very bad buy for me.
The Asda one works out cheaper per gram and far better ingredients. https://groceries.asda.com/product/tomato-ketchup/asda-classic-tomato-ketchup-970-g/1000383208857
Tomatoes (148g per 100g of Ketchup), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Flavouring

Asda is certainly better value, but not sure about having better ingredients.
the Lidl one has. “Tomato puree, water, sugar, vinegar, salt, flavour”,   so essentially the same ?
I’m assuming the Asda. 148g of tomato per 100g of Ketchup essentially means puree.

    TBH I prefer brown sauce.

I think just having tomatoes than tomatoes & water is better.

We find the Aldi Bramwell original to be very good value and tasty tomato ketchup...
