Was surprised at Aldi's having the self service roped off and unavailable today.  The first time in a while that I might have ben willing...

I've noticed in two Aldi branches this week that they put checkout closed signs on a number of their self service checkouts. My first thought was they were out of order but today one was 'reopened' while I was there. Possibly to make it easier to manage /supervise for the single staff member. 😘

The individual closed self-service till in Aldi are about making it easier to supervise a smaller number of tills.

The closure of the entire self-service section can be because they lack any suitably trained staff to operate them at that particular time.
  • For the past two to three weeks there haven't been any raspberries at my local Lidl.  I wonder if there are supply issues?

Product comparison - Minestrone Soup (tins).

    - Adli's version is a pretty typical soup - based on a relatively thin tomato base with various veg, beans and pasta added.   It's fairly salty - 2.2g for a whole tin, and isn't overly herby.  62p

    - Morrison's version is much more substantial.  They could probably call it a "chunky soup", but don't.    There's a lot more veg and pasta, and many more beans than Aldi's version.   So much so that they are able to give it a "5 a day" banner (1 of 5 per half tin).  It also has a wider variety of herbs and spices, with a better flavour and less reliance on salt (1.9g for a whole tin).  75p

For me, the extra 13p for the Morrison's version is well worth it.   Aldi's isn't great, sadly.
I quite like Tesco's minestrone soup, it appears it might be quite similar to the Morrisons version in that its more substantial than the one from Aldi. Morrisons one probably wins in that it has slightly more veg but Tesco one is 8p cheaper.

Thanks for the update @HillStreetBlues. I have always preferred the original but often have to rifle through to find it. I'll stock up next time I see it. I wouldn't be surprised if that gets watered down soon. 🤔☹️
I've just tried it (Aldi washing up Green original liquid) for first time. It was the dreaded deep fat fryer clean, and passed with flying colours, I was v impressed.
So will have a stock up (about 20 bottles) in case like you say they water it down.

I thought that Deluxe was a Lidl brand name ?? I wouldn't touch any of the industrial seed oils with a bargepole. If the criteria is price rather than quality, lard and dripping are dirt cheap and still healthier than ultra-processed seed oils. I use Extra Virgin olive oil. The own brand stuff from Costco is 15.49 for 2 litres. I use organic for salad.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but Lidl's Spin of Surprises this month is a free bakery item with every purchase.   Each win is a voucher for a specific item.
