I catch a bus up to my local Aldi (10 minutes).Brie said:
I get that it's easier to put stuff in if you have 2 hands available unlike with the wire baskets you carry. But for me I'll go for a proper trolley every time.
I use a basket (hand held) as I know that I'll be able to get everything into my 4 wheel shopper trolley.1 -
I know it's not Victoria sponge @Rosa_Damascena but, if you like fruit cake, then I can recommend the whisky cake in Aldi. It's really moist and lovely with cheese. 😋1

... but still not used to the scrambled layout in mine. The old store layout was pretty constant from 2019 to end 2023, which meant I could efficiently get round and know exactly where stuff was. The new/refit one? "All over the shop". LiterallyCornucopia said:
We're getting a new Aldi soon - looking forward to having a bigger store.
-- it's gonna take a few visits to remake my map and list-ordering. Bah!

My local Lidl installed 7 self service checkouts late last year, at first the Lidl APP couldn't be used on the self service but now it can they don't open the manned checkouts until about 10 minutes after they open expecting everyone to use the self service check outs but people are getting wise to it and queuing at the manned check outs until they open them.HillStreetBlues said:
What areas are these self service checkouts? I've never seen one in Lidl.wild666 said:
Apparently if you use the self service checkouts in Lidl if you opt for no receipt in the Lidl app then it doesn't produce a receipt at the checkout whereas if you use the manned checkouts you get a receipt every time.HillStreetBlues said:
That would be my response, thankfully for everyone's sake I've not worked on a shop floor more than a day.PLRFD said:I was in Lidl on Saturday the till operator scanned everything then his till roll bunched up and jammed the machine he said quite loudly for f*ck sake.
I suppose each store will have a schedule to operate self service checkouts and they are doing a few at a time until all their stores have self service and manned check outsSomeone please tell me what money is1 -
I was looking through my Lidl app this morning at the offers and I saw one for deluxe rapeseed oil WT?! Rapeseed oil is rapeseed oil, this, IMHO, is a scam to get people to pay more for a bottle that uses words like deluxe or extra special, even the humble bottle of vegetable oil is rapeseed oil. I think I will stick with the frying oil, rapeseed oil, that's just £2.49 for 2 litres. Before all the price increases the 1 litre bottles were less than the 2 litre bottles but the last price I had for 1 litre was £1.75 per litre, £3.50 for the equivalent 2 litre bottle of frying oil saving £1 on a 2 litre bottle. What's more it's only 500ml so that's £4.98 per litre.Someone please tell me what money is1

... maybe it was extra virgin rapeseed oil@wild666 said:I was looking through my Lidl app this morning at the offers and I saw one for deluxe rapeseed oil WT?! btw seed oils including rapeseed oil are considered less than healthy whereas olive oil is considered healthy as long as it is not burnt as a frying oil ... apparently

The Deluxe one is cold-pressed rapeseed oil which is much healthier than standard rapeseed oil - it's extracted mechanically by crushing the seeds, vs standard which is extracted chemically with various unpleasant solvents and heating.wild666 said:I was looking through my Lidl app this morning at the offers and I saw one for deluxe rapeseed oil WT?! It's a similar concept to paying more for organic extra virgin olive oil vs cheap processed olive oil.5
