For nuts what I've done is buy several of the small packs/pots from various places to see which of the nuts I actually like.
Then shop around for the big packs, I tend to get 2-3 different varieties then mix in a container, following the recommend portion size of 30g.
Personally stick to raw nuts nothing salted or roasted.
I would be a bit careful about this, as nuts go rancid at different rates. Almonds stay good for a long time, but I learned the hard way that hazelnuts do not - and that can introduce an unwanted flavour to what would ordinarily be a highly edible snack.
walnuts can also go rancid... and I think Brazil nuts too.

  • I'm enjoying Aldi dry roasted peanuts, handy for the 2am munches., also have Lidl Honey Roast peanuts on the go.

Walnuts are big and light so seem to find their way to the top of the jar and get eaten first (ditto pecans, at least in my experience). Again Brazils are no hardship to hoover up if you can tolerate the "squeaky" quality that comes with them. The rancid and morish factors go hand in hand - something to do with the oil content?

Peanut butter (shudders) - the mere thought of the smell has me retching.

No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Did I mention the lovely cherry squash at Lidl for their eastern European week?  Unlike most squash it is sugar and juice with no sweeteners.  I bought one to try and will be going back to see if I can get some more.

I noticed recently that my local Lidl store finally has those electronic shelf price labels, which I'm glad about as I've encountered quite a few mistakes in that store with price labels not being changed quickly.

Now you can experience the joy of the prices being changed TOO quickly -- between you seeing the shelf price and getting to the checkout ;)

That is my concern of "live" pricing.
Select a product because it's been reduced but by the time get to check out price has increased.

Surely they would run an update overnight and before the store opens the next day to avoid this happening?

And even if they update it during the day, it still would've been a problem even if the labels had been changed manually by a human, so no disadvantage in that sense of doing an instant update, plus the benefits of lower costs which at the end of the day can only help in holding back price rises.

The separate issue of potentially using this technology to introduce 'surge pricing' by varying the prices according to demand however would IMO not be a good thing.

If prices are updated over night then it's not live pricing
Live pricing is also surge pricing.

Supermarkets currently use live pricing on yellow sticker items, and that's the price you pay at the till.
But with live pricing controlled by AI prices will increase and decrease on items during the day  not just the few times with the yellow label items.
