Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I don't know about honey nut cornflakes Rosa, but I eat some of their other cereals (fruit +fibre, weetabix) and they're good. I used to eat their normal cornflakes and they were good too."One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. I posted a few weeks ago about ham that was so tough, I couldn't chew it which I phoned customer services about.Katiehound said:

You will normally get the value of the product plus a couple of quid refunded.
If you return the product install you will only get the exact value of your purchase.
I have done this several times over the last few years with Aldi.
They will email you a voucher to use in store.
They took the details & said they would send feed back to supplier/ quality control
"take the packaging/ till receipt to the shop & they will refund or exchange." No mention of any extra money!
I have phoned a few times in the past & never had anything other than directions to return the item.
I certainly won't be exchanging!!
Finally got back to Aldi yesterday with receipt and film with label from the product and told the cashier I had phoned customer services. She got on her mic to tell someone and promptly and very politely refunded my money. No waiting for a manager to come but also no compensation which I would not have expected.
I think compensation would probably only be given if something was 'off'.3 -
I've never had a problem getting refunded at Aldi- or getting a replacement. I was just answering a previous comment about compensation. needless to say in this instance I do not want a replacement. Worst meat ever!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I was giving an update on my situation and backing you up about the compensation comment.1 -
I'm well aware its unhealthy but there is a difference between having a treat in and knowing it is bad for you and eating stuff under the illusion it is healthy. A few g of dry cereal - as opposed to a massive bowl sloshing in milk - takes longer to chew through than a soft slice of cake, so its a means of limiting the harm. Removing the rubbish entirely is (for me) a pathway to failure.MrsStepford said:Cereals and cake are both unhealthy, full of sugar and carbs (which are processed by the body as glucose (sugar). Google Dr David Unwin, an NHS GP in Southport. He has produced graphs which show how many teaspoons of sugar there are in cereals, bananas etc. He was NHS Innovator of the Year for it.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

Don't know about Aldi's but the OH does not rate the Lidl version. Had to mix it in with other cereal to make it palatable enough to finish the box rather than just bin it.Rosa_Damascena said:Much as I am going out of my way to avoid UPFs, it occurred to me that I would be better off snacking on a small qty of dry honey nut cornflakes rather than cake / biscuits (these never come in micro-helpings) with my afternoon coffee. That's a pity, because I've just gone out and bought some...from Lidl! Pictured here with my late afternoon latte and custard cream (for scale).Brie said:

The verdict is: they taste ok which is ideal as if they were truly scrumptious I might have difficulty stopping at this quantity. So this is theoretically better than eating multiple biscuits when I want something to munch.

For what it's worth I think they are all vile as I don't like flakes or nuts on flakes. Grape nuts (which don't have nuts) or Lidl Nutty muesli (which do have nuts) are my preferred things. The Aldi equivalent of nutty muesli isn't quite as nice in my opinion.Rosa_Damascena said:

These are flake-y but you'd be hard pressed to find a sliver of nut.Brie said:For what it's worth I think they are all vile as I don't like flakes or nuts on flakes. Thought I would update.HillStreetBlues said:
You even have to keep an eye on what smaller bottle you buy. The original is full strength, so is the Apple and also the Lemon, yet the Pomegranate is the weaker strength. Also the Anti-Bacs ones are weaker at removing oils.John_Gateshead said:I don't think it has, which I suppose might have alerted me to the fact that it wasn't the same. Unfortunately the smaller (better) bottles seem to have disappeared from the shelves or I'd just get those next time.
It's now only the Aldi original that is full strength the others are now weaker. They have updated the Apple one on-line to show it's weaker, but not the lemon one but as photo shows clearly now weaker. The Good Housekeeper logo now just appears on the green original, so if buying careful which one you chose.
