We'd unpacked onto the conveyor (someone in front), then readied our 3 bags (the big rectangular Aldi ones) in the trolley to receive. We have it down to a fine art.😇
They said it was now policy to check all bags (nothing personal) and they've put up notices.
Not a national policy then it appears.3 -
We did have that in Aldi, here. I've been using self-service, and I also have boxes not bags, so I don't get challenged any more.
The risk was explained to me as people hiding items in the bags and not putting them on the till belt - so it's not related to where people pack.4 -

Why?
How is using our bags as basically trolley liners slowing us down or holding anyone up?
We keep pace with even the speediest checkout operator 😇
They'd still want to check our empty bags before they start, regardless. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -
I haven’t seen that at my Aldi, but I’ll check tomorrow when I’m out.I don’t shop with bags any more. I’ve got a banana box in my boot that I sling in my trolley, just the right size too.I was having a bother keeping the plastic bags clean. I’d wipe out the insides if I’d bought something frozen/wet and then hang them to dry, but a box is so much easier. I only do wee shops though.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I was living in France in the early 1990s when I first visited Lidls - did my shop and started to pack at the till. Was shouted at in very guttural French which I didnt understand, lots of tuttering from other customers and gestations from the till worker which made it obvious I was to pack on the benches. It obviously made an impression as I still do so and I'm the one doing the tutting at a slow packer in front of me when I have to use a manned till

So much to read, so little time.1 -
We empty the trolley onto the conveyor belt, then unfold the shopping bags and put them ready. We have been asked just once to show that they were all empty. It is not insulting, I am glad they are trying to prevent theft.
The secret is to organise the shopping on the conveyor belt so everything for bag 1 goes through first, heavier stuff first.
We need only a small trolley and with DH to pack and me ready, card poised to pay, we can match the fastest shop staff.
There was one member of staff who caused bottles to fall off and smash.
More haste less speed. If they are rude DH tends to get flustered.5 -
Yep put your shopping on the belt in the order you want it packed. Makes a big difference.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.5

Agree about getting organised on the belt first.
We tend to go, milk and other heavy bottles (space these out across the bags), then cereal boxes (helps keep the bags square), then all chilled/frozen in one bag, with everything else split between the other 2. We then have a 4th bag (hung on the hook) for bread and other squidgy stuff. Really big stuff like loo rolls, go last and we just put to one side and then dump on top.

I put heavy stuff onto the belt first (hard veg+tins+jars), then cold/frozen stuff, then everything else. Then I pack the heavy bits into the corners of my box, cold stuff goes in my chill bag thing on the trolley hook, remnants go in the middle of the box.
Makes it so much quicker and simpler doesn't it?I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.1
