Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

Totally agree about Aldi customer service compared with Lidl. I think the staff training must be better in Aldi. They all seem to be able to do any task around the store and without fail they will try to help locate products and help any way they can.2

Has anyone else's Aldi put up notices reminding customers to empty all their bags onto the conveyor AND then having their shopping bags searched, before they start scanning.🤔
Or maybe we just have a local light-fingered problem 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -

No @Sea_Shell, nothing like that here.
When a new branch of Aldi opened a couple of years ago, they used to remind/nag people to pack at the shelf. They soon gave up. Most Aldi customers are rapid packers! 😁 Although, to be honest, the cashiers seem to have stopped flinging everything through at a rate of knots.1 -
If I use my own shopping bag in any supermarket as a matter of courtesy I show the checkout operator the inside of my bag.

Or maybe we just have a local light-fingered problem 😉There is no point in being dishonest, I would like to think if people choose to pilfer at the self-service tills it's because they are genuinely desperate to feed their kids. I've just read about an aggravated robbery of 10 bottles of wine in a local convenience store, it must have really shaken the staff up. It's thought that 2 teenagers are behind this senseless act.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
I don't empty my bags. Normally I'm buying in multiples of something - like orange juice. So I put 1 on the belt and tell the teller "I've got 5 of those" with the bag available in case they want to check. Mostly they don't bother. I think thought that some stores have more issues than others. There's a very busy Lidl in town near where all the uni students seem to live, as well as drug addicts, hookers and rough sleepers. Aha. So we've probably had a spate of "I've got 5 of those 😉" when they've actually got more.
Stock check then shows a discrepancy. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -

For the record, we weren't using our bags to shop. We had a trolly. They were hung on the hook.
We'd unpacked onto the conveyor (someone in front), then readied our 3 bags (the big rectangular Aldi ones) in the trolley to receive. We have it down to a fine art.😇
They said it was now policy to check all bags (nothing personal) and they've put up notices.
Not a national policy then it appears. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2
