Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I make my own coleslaw 65p for the cabbage, 89p for the net of red onions, and 50p for 1Kg of carrots. I bought 35 200ml bottes of mayonnaise at 5p per bottle from a cheap food site.Brie said:Lidl coleslaw and potato salad are still the best of the bunch by far. Much preferable and cheaper than Waitrose. I love the M&S potato salad but it's half the size of the Lidl one and the OH prefers the Lidl one so that's an extra vote for it.
I would normally make my own mayonnaise but at 5p for 200ml the bottles were a bargain, cheaper than even homemade mayo.
I haven't seen any cabbage red or green in Lidl for about 6 weeks so get the cabbage from Morrisons.Someone please tell me what money is2 -
Maybe wonky for peas means too big to go in the standard bag of peas as I bought a bag once and they seemed to be bigger than the peas in the standard bags.rhcp said:Morrisons do wonky peas, still can't find out what is wonky about them, but at 55p for 900g, they'll do. The concept of wonky peas always makes me smile.Someone please tell me what money is2 -
I expect mushy peas may be made from wonky ones too. 🤔2

Yes - had a look again at a different Lidl today. Chicken wing crisps but no cheese corn.YoungBlueEyes said:No cheese popcorn here @Brie, no USA popcorn at all in fact.Is it something you could have a go at making?
And yes - it is easy enough to make. I've got an air popper and I have (or used to have, must double check) cheese sprinkles for popcorn (bought over there of course). But I know you can do all sorts of fun things if you have grated parmesan although powdered cheddar has a better flavour. But if I'm making my own popcorn I never normally get beyond pouring melted butter on it. That's one whopper batch of coleslaw. I would imagine that would feed a family for a week!!wild666 said:

So much to read, so little time.2 -
I haven't really noticed that the wonky peas are bigger, so if they are, it is marginal.

Given automation that is everywhere these days I suspect that the peas are shelled and then sent along a conveyer belt with the tiddly ones dropping down to the petit pois bags, medium ones to the next best bags and the rest reviewed by a camera that triggers the ones that aren't quite round or the wrong shade of green into the wonky bags.rhcp said:I haven't really noticed that the wonky peas are bigger, so if they are, it is marginal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I rarely get to Morrisons but was in there a few weeks ago. I saw these peas in a clear plastic bag, they looked nice, not discoloured or mis-shaped and quite small. I was tempted to try them but after waiting ages for the friend who took me, I forgot to put them in the trolley.3

Perhaps we need to get back to Aldi and Lidl. I'm sure the mods will soon be pea'd off with this discussion. 😁7
