Lidl Favorina Layer Cake Bites are delicious - very subtle flavour and not overly sweet, but with a rich liqueur aftertaste.

14 cake bites in the pack, but probably not worth the full price of £2.49.

They've already been heavily discounted on the Advent Calendar, though, and look much better VFM at £1.49

Presumably offering 24 bites? I've not actually seen either product before.

The Batts tomatoes ketchup is back, for 55p. There were 2 empty outlets but for 3 bottles this afternoon so I decided to buy all 3 whilst the going is good.

  • Mmm those cake bites look yummy @Cornucopia. I've not seen them so I'll have to keep my eye out. They'll give my tongue a change from cherry liqueurs!

There are at least two flavours - those Rum ones in the picture and I have Orange Liqueur ones.    They are in amongst the seasonal Christmas stuff.

I have it on good authority that there is a third flavour:  Irish Cream Liqueur.

Came across an interesting article on line today (sorry no link) that was a list of what (in their opinion) to buy or not buy from Aldi.  I was surprised at some of it - like yoghurt which they said was dreadful but that milk was good.  To never buy meat, fish or fresh vegetable or fruit but frozen fruit was great.  They did emphasise the quality of the German food products which I quite agree with (though I tend to buy Lidl's instead due to the convenience).

And then I noticed that it was an American article and were comparing everything to Walmart.  Surprising that as Walmart is fair from either cheap or quality anywhere I've come across it.  Asda is significantly better than Walmart which is also a surprise as it's the same company.

Thanks for the correction.  Well Asda were better than Walmart when they were the same company.  And are still better now.  And a lot of times cheaper even given the exchange rate.  Checking nearly identical branded products Asda is better value.  (but I do not like their christmas ads, but that's probably true for most the stores and particularly Lidl & Aldis!!!)
