I’ve already ruled out an oil CH system but would hope there’ll always be cheap rate electricity for storage heaters.
Bulb E7: L 8.937p N 18.015p
OVO E7: L 9.072p N 17.640p
Symbio: L 13p N 13p
Current rates with EON E10 are: L 14.443p N 22.63p standing charge 28.62p
Better off with single rate.
What’s needed is a complete heating system change with a suitable, cheap tariff. Economy or single rate depending what I fit.
The EON bills aren’t too bad over the summer months obviously and it’s a good time to change.

Symbio will probably be the cheapest you can find for a single rate, although their reputation is terrible. The range of prices, 13p to 22.63p (Normal=Day rate), is huge and will make a huge difference to your bill if you heat with electricity.Reed2

Considering that I’m after a heating system, it would make sense for the units to be at floor level like radiators or storage heaters.

Good idea to maybe install something for the main living areas to try it out but don’t want more than one outside compressor unit.
Maybe the heat pump could be upgraded for extra indoor units later. Not sure if this would be a problem for the initial installation.
I have cheap convector heaters for occasional bedroom use which would be used even if I go with Quantums on E7.
At least with HHR NSH’s, the input can be increased and they probably do it automatically.

I often wonder if it is worthwhile spending £thousands extra to cope with a 'once a year' freezing spell - I am as guilty as most!95% of the time a smaller heating system will cope, and when it doesn't, a £10 3kW fan heater will suffice.3

How many purchase surveys assess the heating requirements of the property and compare it with the capability of the heating system - answers on a post card please.
Likewise Energy Performance Certificates, they may try to assess the heating requirements but they dont actually specify whether the existing system is any good, it just gives it a star rating based on what fuel it uses.
TBH if people see a heating system of some sort they are fairly happy and I'd bet that, unless it's pointed out (or they trip over it), most people dont really take a lot of notice on what fuel it uses or how it works - that's what comes as a big surprise or shock after they've moved in.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers2
