I’m very happy with this advice/clarity.sheramber said:od244051 said:I’m not going on holiday for a week - to spend 7-10 hours standing to go through passport control and then spend 10 days self isolating. As the country I’m going to isn’t on the green or red lists so Amber
I struggle to stand for two hours. Plus it will be masked. Think I will become ill doing this.
The government need to do something to reduce the queues. Plus many will struggle with the lack of toilets. Then first lot of loos past control will have yet another queue to use them!Amber list countries and territories
What you must do if you have been in an amber country or territory in the 10 days before you arrive in England.
You should not travel to amber list countries or territories for leisure purposes.
for many this means a right to a refund/change if travel is formally advised against
not sure whether people realise that disinclination due to quarantine is not the problem of a holiday company and is generally not insured
uk gov have done consumers a massive favour here by removing the choice/liability from consumers0 -
Agree it is expensive but people do go there to see the northern lights or go to the blue lagoon etc, so it’s not quite like falklands, st Helena etc. As far as destinations go.Butts said:
Agreed, it's also very expensive !!lisyloo said:
Iceland is a lovely place for a short break and surprisingly warm due to being in the Gulf Stream. Not really ideal for a family holiday in the sun though,Thrugelmir said:Always fancied a summer holiday in Iceland, Faroe Islands or the Falklands.
Unfortunately Australia and New Zealand aren't easily accessible.
the blue lagoon, geysers, waterfall make it an interesting short break.
It was certainly a weird list of unlikely holiday destinations. I have been to the Azores scuba diving but that’s not mainstream.0 -
My OH has been to Iceland twice and loves it, but he is an astronomy buff and goes in February. Needless to say, I am not tempted to join him. He says that you can get more reasonable meals in food courts in Reykjavik.0

If he goes most years, he has knowledge of these places unlike first timers unless someone tells themIbizafan said:My OH has been to Iceland twice and loves it, but he is an astronomy buff and goes in February. This may get stickier than this still.lisyloo said:

Albania is one that has stuck out to me as not having travel to it advised against by the FCO, but where government advice is a mandatory 10 day isolation.
In the case of a package holiday, I'd be inclined as a tour operator to refuse to cancel in these circumstances on the back of the FCO guidance.
I believe that Canarias are in this position also, so this is going to lead to problems for the individual travel agents where one hand is saying one thing, the other is saying the opposite.💙💛 💔0 -
I'm off to Albania in December so hopefully will be ok by then.CKhalvashi said:

Probably due to the veracity of Data - similar to Turkey last year - ie lies, damn lies and .....0 -
Northern Macedonia is even cheaper than Albania. Though the customs border with Albania makes even the UK Border Force seem super fast and efficient when you cross.Butts said:

There are flights to Skopje from the UK (although I appreciate not with Butts' favourite airline). I found the process at Tirana airport to be extremely easy, although admittedly wasn't stopped by Customs (or crossed a land border).
The worst one by far has to be the Armenia-Georgia land border from experience. Everyone was professional, but it seems to take forever💙💛 💔0 -
You wouldn't want the Falklands in our summer. Its freezing with high winds (normal for the place) & snow. Winter is nice, I had a barbecue on Xmas day when I went there 30 years ago.Thrugelmir said:Always fancied a summer holiday in Iceland, Faroe Islands or the Falklands.

Another border which took forever was Croatia/Bosnia-Herzegovina. Went there on a day trip as part of organised coach holiday. Was in the border area for a combined 3 hours. Whereas Croatia/Montenegro was a breeze.CKhalvashi said:
