What is the point of waiting for day 8 test when you can test to release on day 5?
If you want to end your quarantine early you can pay for the Day 5 test ,& when you get a negative result back ( which my not be on Day 5) you can end your quarantine-  however you still have to pay for and take the Day 2 & 8 Test.

I think the point is that there are 3 negative tests within a period of each other, and the day 8 to be safe.

As the costs come down, this will become less of a problem.

Anyone else had to Google where exactly Tristan da cunha was?

Population 264 people. No hotel. I don’t think Jet2 or TUI offer holidays there ;)

I went to a progressive school 😕 and we had strange lessons and spent a full term learning about Tristan D Cunha , we even dressed up like they did (not very accurately as it recall it was just long cotton skirts and head scarves (like our mums wore) against the wind. I even wrote to someone there to be my pen pal, but they never did respond!

Certainly don’t want to holiday there.

Thought I would check out BA holidays to Portugal in May found a 7 day self- catering holiday for  £281.00 but when I selected it I got the message “The advertised price  is no longer available on these dates. The best available price for these dates is now £614.00.”
Not surprising , add in the costs of the PCR tests and a UK Staycation looks like the best option for us . Lots of beautiful places to visit in UK.

Always fancied a summer holiday in Iceland, Faroe Islands or the Falklands.  :)

Unfortunately Australia and New Zealand aren't easily accessible.  :/

Confusingly, Albania and several Greek islands aren't on the green list, despite the travel advice changing over the past days indicating they would be. I'd expect (subject to rates staying low) that this will change over the next weeks.

Be the broader lack of testing, genomics, vaccination programmes etc. Pure declared case numbers aren't enough in isolation any longer.
Of course, naturally taking the full circumstances into account.
The data presented to the Government on which decisions are made is now far better than it was in the past. The UK is in many regards well advanced. Now a question of waiting for others to catch up.

You bottled it and left it to late and were consequently asked "to pay the price"  :D

I’m not going on holiday for a week - to spend 7-10 hours standing to go through passport control and then spend 10 days self isolating. As the country I’m going to isn’t on the green or red lists so Amber

I struggle to stand for two hours. Plus it will be masked.  Think I will become ill doing this.

The government need to do something to reduce the queues. Plus many will struggle with the lack of toilets. Then first lot of loos past control will have yet another queue to use them!

I believe that teams of border control officers are pairing, so this should reduce the queues a little.

It is government policy to check all passengers manually at this time, so all I can suggest is writing to your MP.

Here's a radical thought why not change your destination and avoid the queues ?
Ever heard of Jersey or Guernsey ?
    And soon Ireland.
