Employer forcing into office

I suffer from Health issues employer aware of and  I am being asked to attend for training without an attempt for it to be done remotely.
I have been told will face disciplinary if I dont attendnfor 3 hours even though I have a doctors note stating my anxiety disorder

Is this a fit note which means that you are currently not working?
  • I am working from home fine
  • I just dont want to go in, and put myself and a vulnerable family member at risk too when cant go in a house with family members but can be in a room with 4 people in office

If you're not signed off work as sick then it doesn't appear that your employer is being unreasonable in asking that you attend the office for a few hours. Have you asked them for their covid risk assessment of that is what is causing you concern?
  • Not so much , it is more my condition and my concern for a family member being in a room with 4 people

The reason the rules in a workplace are somewhat more flexible is that employers have a duty of care and people are significantly less likely to kiss/hug colleagues than they are family members, but either way, the risk at work is so low as to pretty much be non-existent now.

The office will be much more formally adapted than your home.  I've been going to work all through this, many people have.

I can understand that it must be very strange for people who have barely been out for a year, but I promise its not that scary, I haven't had Covid and I work in a hospital!

It will actually do you good to start getting back to normality.  Giving in to anxiety only amplifies it.

Your condition would have to meet the threshold of being classified as a disability, and your request to attend the training session virtually be deemed a "reasonable adjustment" , for you to avoid the disciplinary process if you continue in your refusal to go to the office.

Agree - the mental health aspects of “getting back to normal” now far outweigh any risk factors when sensible precautions are in place.

Whilst WFH may be an adequate short term solution, it may not be a long term solution for the business and we ARE in this long term.

If your family member is vulnerable - they will have had at least one (maybe 2) vaccinations and and therefore much less vulnerable than you think.

I have also worked throughout in a hospital (mixed in with WFH) and am still fit and well, got a train to work this morning and am sat in a room with more than 4 people in it.

Its all about perspectives and a large amount of people need to reset theirs
