Check the new tracker tariff prices as they will be higher than what ever tariff you are on now.

Maybe worth checking other suppliers also.

Use Octoprice app for a comparison of old and new tracker tariffs.

I'm tempted to end my gas December 2024 early and shift it to Fuse. Over the past 5 months or so its averaging out at about the same but the SC on fuse is less.

Would miss the visibility of it in Home Assistant via the mini but not a deal breaker.

Yes, I've done that although Octoprice no longer works for me. Thinking of moving to Fuse for gas but thought I'd wait and see first. I'm not sure what I'm waiting for (ha!) but wonder how long Fuse will last. I've been with so many suppliers that have gone bust I'm loathe to risk it again.

Not sure what the downside is? A bit of administrative hassle I suppose but that's all. Meantime, cheaper energy.. Just be sure never to give them a credit balance to hold on to.

As for waiting, all the prices are due to change from April 1st (inauspicious date!) because of govt. policy: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/energy-price-cap-prediction/

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..
  • My Tracker contract ends today so, in preparation, did some number crunching based on my last 12 months kWh usage comparing current Tracker formula with MSE Energy Club,

With the exception of two companies who i have had bad experience with and would not touch with the proverbial and Fuse who are very new (look what happened to Bulb) I would only be saving £60 over the next 12 months.

As i monitor and analyse my usage then Octopus has obvious advantages over other providers.

This has proved very useful as, since being with Octopus, I have, over the full period, been far better off than chopping and changing suppliers chasing the best rates

Whilst no-one know what the future holds, i have decided, for now, to stick with Tracker as the potential saving, for me at least, is not enough to counter the availability of real time data.

My Tracker deal ends on 28th March and I am trying to decide what the best option is. I am in central Scotland and the formula will see unit rates for both Electricity and Gas will both rise as I'd be moving from Tracker December 2024 v1 to Tracker September 2025 v1.

Did you consider Agile rather than Tracker for electricity? I have always dismissed it as I know we use electricity for cooking meals in the peak 1600 - 1900 slot. However having my account details connected to https://www.octopriceuk.app/compare it claims that over the last 12 months I'd be £60 better off on Agile over Tracker. I'm not sure if there will be a new version of either tariff before my renewal date or if either will have their standing charges reduced based on the budget. Have Octopus communicated about that?

  • I have monthly data going back to when I joined Octopus in April 23 and your comparison is probably about right as I would have saved about £75 if I had been on Agile rather than Tracker for the past 12 months. However, taking my time with Octopus as a whole then the story is a bit different.

I did try Agile for a couple of months back in 2023 just after I joined but found it more expensive than Tracker would have been so in August 23 moved to Tracker. I do not have an EV and, whilst my midnight to 0600 electricity usage is higher than the average (reef aquarium and associated equipment), could not move other high energy usage to unsociable hours.

Since joining Octopus (April 23) I have been, in total, around 4% better off on Tracker.. Interestingly Agile would have been far more expensive, for me at least, every month for the first eight months and, whilst the difference has changed, Tracker would only have been cheaper for six of the subsequent months. Also, my saving has been based on the Tracker formula in use at the time. If I compare with the current Tracker formula then I would have been about 4% worse off.

Having done various comparisons both of Octopus and other companies' tariffs I have decided to renew my Tracker contract as am hoping that my longer term experience repeats. I would, possibly, make some short term savings but, based on the amounts, do not consider it worth the hassle. Plus, any savings would be with companies that, having used before, would not touch with the proverbial or are relatively new to the business (see what happened to Bulb).

Not sure if that helps. Now, if only we had a crystal ball!

Tracker Gas dipped below 5p/kWh for me this week, despite having moved onto the current version of the tariff. It's crept up above 5p again in the last couple of days, but it's still cheaper than the SVT or any recent Octopus fix bar the short-lived November V3.

I've had the same but when I click it I get

"Unfortunately, you're not currently eligible to switch to this tariff.

Not to worry! There are plenty of other smart tariffs for you to explore. Check out our smart tariffs."

I can see a tracker type tariff if I select 'change tariff' on the main page but the rates show as this

Is this the one others see? The rates are poor. Especially the unit rate. Is it done via a new (worse for us) calculatation?

The new rates are the same as East Midlands region for Sept 2025 v1
