I'm on tracker for gas, but I've never really paid much attention to it. I presume it changes it midnight - is there any notice in advance anywhere?

Martin has been commenting on social media that wholesale prices dropped after the price cap was set, but customers won't get the benefit until January. Fixed prices will reflect the energy company's best guess as to what will happen to wholesale prices over the term. So I am quite glad that they are looking competitive, but I am not tempted to lock in to a 4p higher standing charge and 2-4p higher unit price based on recent trends. I will take my chances regarding WW3 breaking out.
It's still only a guess as to whether there will be any reduction in January's price cap. Not surprisingly in view of events, both EDF's and BG's weekly predictions for future price caps have just gone up after several weeks of falls - those are more recent than Cornwall Insight's recent revision to their forecast. We could yet see a further rise in January.

Indeed, a few weeks at the start of the period could easily be outweighed by increases over the rest of the period. But the point is that the cap on day one is overvaluing the price of energy. The fact that fixed deals are looking such good value is a good omen for wholesale prices in the short-medium term too, so this is all good news for tariffs like Tracker and Agile. We do not seem to be suffering higher prices than last year so far.

I'm still on gas tracker. Since I joined it's not been more expensive than the capped SVR.

Whether I'd have been able to fix for cheaper or whether I should now fix, I'm not sure. It's very much a gamble, I guess. Lock in for certainty or take the risk.
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)
