Why have people made this so difficult to understand? Over a month ago various posters clearly explained how this worked and thereafter I moved my electricity to agile and gas to tracker v3. Both are variable but the advantage is they have an upper cap for 12 months from when you transfer over.
Agile cap 35p and gas cap for v3 is 11p. Come October you’ll be lucky to have these type of rates.
Is there an electric cap with V3?
    40p on electric tracker
4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.

Link for reference (only place this is stated by Octopus, as far as I know):

If wholesale prices go up, am I stuck on the Octopus Tracker paying a higher price?

No, if you ever want to come off the Octopus Tracker, just email hello@octopus.energy and we will move you to one of our other tariffs right away, alternatively you can switch directly in your online account. Additionally, we have introduced a maximum cap on Tracker prices at 40p / kWh of electricity and 11p / kWh for gas

Aha! That's where I saw the mention of a waiting list.
    I've emailed about switching anyway.

With tracker v3 do you need to check your meter every day?
I noticed on the Octopus website they mentioned a waiting list for v3. Maybe I misread though.
The main tracker page (https://octopus.energy/tracker/ includes the following tick box to accept). So you may need to have smart meter installed at some point:

I understand this tariff requires the submission of monthly meter readings, and may require the future installation of a smart meter. I understand Octopus Energy reserve the right to switch me to another tariff if I am unable or unwilling to comply with this requirement.

FYI, if you don't have a smart meter, you miss out on one of the potential benefits of variable pricing (which is part of the point of Tracker)
With ongoing smart meter data, you can change you usage to take advantage of low cost days (assuming we ever get another 12p per kWh day!).
I doubt they would allow daily user reading for this, as it is open to abuse.

Without a smart meter the daily usage through the month is based on typical usage patterns instead (applied to the total monthly amount).

How do I sign up to the octopus gas tracker tariff, the one thats capped, cant find a link for it anywhere.

This link signs up for it on electricity as well which would override agile.

When we asked to move over we were told smart meters were being rolled out this summer for people on Tracker who didn't already have one.

Contact them by other methods asking for that to happen

I just spoke to them on the phone and they confirmed v3 cap will not change for existing users, I will go live on 23rd august and they have put me directly on v3 for gas and confirmed if v4 comes out tomorrow I will be on v3 with the 11p cap for the tariff duration (12 months)

They may not need to alter the cap for existing Tracker users, they can just increase whack up the SC 😉

Note: I don't think they will do this, but they could.

And for Agile, they would have a fight over changing the cap with never and guaranteed on their website. But again, contractually they could. (E&OE and all that).

@milo_2020 did you ask for confirmation in writing?
