I've just given my first gas meter reading of the month. My bill's being validated but it looks like my average gas price for the last ten days has been around 8.3p/kWh.

I would be switching to tracker for Gas but just cannot get Octopus to confirm this 11p cap will be honoured throughout the winter period, they keep ducking the question with respones such as its a variable tariff that can go and down. They don't even acknowledge there is a cap until pushed and then say they have introduced a cap on the tariff, but that's it... So it could be pulled tomorrow or next month or next year. Its very grey and even if Octopus have done something previously nothing to say they will do the same again, last winter I guess numbers on trscker were fairly low and so they couod honour the cap throughout, but maybe this winter with alot more customers on it they may decide to revise the cap sooner, with nothing written down in any t&cs it would be hard to argue on a tariff that is variable and states it tracks the daily wholesale market so you know what your signing upto is not a fix.
I am currently on price promise so a bit of gamble if I do switch and they increase / pull the cap.1 -
They did originally confirm to me the cap is in place for the duration of my tariff on Tracker V3 on electric, so assumption with that and previous examples would say they will...
I am waiting for them to start my switch from So Energy as my fix ends on 3rd September at 3pthey seem to assure me that they can make the start date on tracker V3... but we will see... they have delayed my agile @ 35p cap until end of august

Tracker and Agile are not fixed. Asking Octopus to say it is fixed will always fail, because it is not fixed. Its absolutely clear this is the case. Octopus are a decent company. They would certainly like to honour the current prices and they might well do so. If push comes to shove and they start losing serious money on these tariffs they will put the prices up. I will not blame them one little bit.
The last time I tried to point this out I had several replies with screenshots featuring the word 'guaranteed'. Well I took a 2 year fix with BE that was guaranteed. Turns out the guarantee was worthless. Then I went to BG and had a rate that was guaranteed. It turns out that was worthless too.
If you want an actual guarantee then you take a fixed deal that says its fixed in the Terms and Conditions. Even then they might go bust.
I know this opinion is unpopular. Maybe I'll get another couple of posts removed or another warning, who knows.

I have explicitly got confirmation it is fixed via email for both Agile and Tracker, on top of that when you agree to agile it says about the 35p cap for the duration of the tariff. So you are at least wrong about the part saying it will always fail, as I have the confirmation from them saying it is fixed.0

I have in this thread, its the same person Igor - I asked him 3 separate times to confirm this too when doomsayers in this thread say otherwise, although after confirming and posting here he will no longer reply to me and other CSA's reply even explicitly asking for him ccing him in. Lucky I got everything sorted before hand!!

DarrenI know; I, and others have pointed this out on a number of occasions, but some seem unwilling to accept the reality. My enquiry has been specifically in respect of the unit rate cap, which does not have any form of guarantee, but instead of Octopus saying e.g. we could increase or remove it at any time, they simply ignore the question, or answer something that you haven't asked.0
