  • Just had an email from Octopus saying I had requested a change to one of their export tariffs. No, I didn’t! I hope it’s not a sneaky way to get me off Nov 22 Tracker. I only have 1.125kwh capacity on my panels so we use most of what we make, I’ll leave all my FiT and deemed export where it is as it all works fine that way for now.

Are the current standing charges the same for Agile and Dec 23Tracker?

They are in the NW, so I assume everywhere else too.

If I exit from the Dec 23 tariff and simultaneously apply to rejoin in 9 months' time, is it pure speculation what kind of a deal I will be faced with then? The unit kWh rates will obviously be different, but the price formulas and T's & C's and such like?
Yes, they might change the formula and SC before you are able to rejoin, but likely everyone else would be subjected to them a few months later. If it becomes less competitive still, you might not wish to rejoin it.

Well the deed has been done. For better or worse, we're on Agile from tomorrow.  Will set the batteries to top up a bit for a couple of hours overnight and see how we get on.  My estimated annual electric bill is £153.34. That's what I paid in about 6 weeks at the start of last year with EDF and before we installed the solar.

Prolific £229.82, Octopoints £4.27, Topcashback £290.85, Tesco Clubcard challenges £60, Misc Sales £321, Airtime £10.
    Total £915.94/£2025 45.2%

    Make £2024 in 2024
Prolific £907.37, Chase Intt £59.97, Chase roundup int £3.55, Chase CB £122.88, Roadkill £1.30, Octopus referral reward £50, Octopoints £70.46, Topcashback £112.03, Shopmium referral £3, Iceland bonus £4, Ipsos survey £20, Misc Sales £55.44

Are you sure it's from tomorrow and not backdated to midnight?

Ohh I think you're right!  Good job there was some charge in the battery when I was doing my ironing at 4pm!

If you're right that would imply that no matter when, where, why or how one joins it makes no difference, all get given the same treatment army style

    It wouldn't imply that.
Regarding "when", anyone who is in a fixed term will be protected from any changes for the entire duration of the term. While someone joining would get the terms on offer at that time, which may or may not differ. If changes were made effective in April and the original offer was withdrawn, then nobody who was moved earlier this month would be affected until Feb 2025. While you would be affected in 9 months' time if you left and rejoined, and someone joining in April would be on the new terms from the outset.
Obviously "where" also makes a difference, since the rates vary by region.
"Why" and "how" seem to be the Achilles heel of Octopus, since they seem to lead to decisions later disowned as incorrect.
  • I suppose it comes down to the definition of "join". I could join in 9 months' time as normal if I was not in Tracker. Or I could apply now to re-join in 9 months' time if barred by the system from joining sooner. The T's and C's could be the same or different.  I can see this going to the Supreme Court.
