A good chance that gas wholesale could close today at its lowest price since April 2021...
and about 3 seconds after this post the price started rising to actually finish higher for the day. cheers  ;)
It's making bottled LPG at about 28p/kWh look expensive :-)

Tracker is significantly better for electricity for me than Agile because when the weather's cold I use it for secondary heating in peak periods so the bulk of my use is at peak rates on cold days. And the savings sessions make it even more worthwhile - Agile hasn't come close for me over the winter.

So I'm sticking with the plan. I'll switch to Agile (or possibly Flux) at the end of the month. That way, I'll have the option of switching back to Tracker next winter, but a lot could happen in that time. Any one of a number of things could send prices higher and the market is constantly changing so there may be other tariffs to choose from.

In the meantime, the parts for my battery upgrade arrived at first light this morning. The additional capacity will open up all kinds of options and possibilities. I'm well on my way to generating enough and making enough from summer exports to pay for winter imports to be free of energy bills forever. The bulk of my heating comes from a wood stove and free firewood.

Don’t forget to factor in the probable big increase in standing charges which haven’t yet been applied to tracker and agile. You could lock in existing standing charges for a year and avoid any increase.
  • Your last sentence. Could you expand on that please. How. ?

If you switch to Tracker or Agile the standing charge is fixed for the duration of your fixed term

Have Octopus issued a new Tracker tariff as a result of the changes announced yesterday?

    Or is one expected?

I'm just wondering about the risk of signing up today - whether it will be under the previous standing charge or the proposed new standing charge.

I signed up to Loyal Octopus Fixed earlier this week with no exit fees ahead of the price cap change in case it wasn't as good as was forecast, which means I'm protected against the standing charge increase. But since then I've found out about Octopus Tracker, and now wondering whether I should be switching to that instead.

They've recently increased standing charges on both Tracker and Agile. One would think they'd have some idea of what Ofgem had planned for SC. If you sign up today you'll get the Dec 2023 rates (or if you're lucky the Nov 2022 rates given there are still isolated reports of people being put on the wrong one).

    Thank you.

From what I can see all standing charges are currently 52.31p for electric - I think that was what I was paying on Flexible before switching to Fixed Loyal which is what I am paying now. Checking out the Octopus Compare app it seems that Tracker is the same rate too.

Standing charges of course vary by region, so mine are different than yours. I expect Flexible will change in April. I haven't seen any commentary by Octopus about how they will respond to the change in the cap. I would guess there will be some increase, but they'll maintain them below the maximum permitted.

The Octopus fixes have already changed in the last 24 hours to reflect the higher standing charges but Tracker is still unchanged from Dec 23 version at the moment.

    What region are you?
