13p kWh for Eastern tomorrow versus the new 1st Jan rate of 29.22p kWh.mmmmikey said:.....hard to understand why there are still people who don't believe smart meters and tariffs don't save money.
It's going to be a shock to the system when Tracker prices shoot up to the level where they're only 30% less than the SVR - we've certainly had it good for the last couple of weeks!
There was a very insistent person on this forum that helped us understand and get onto tracker and we are thankful they did. We even broke a fix we were in to do so. Luckily we hit if off heat pump wise and can reward them with a local kWh of woodfords wherry. They also introduced us to a Greta heat pump engineer who now services and looks after our heat pump. They were here for 2 hours before Christmas changed the filter, topped up the anti freeze and made all the pressures up to manufacturers spec. Cleaned and ran electrical checks and the cost £85.

No because there isn't one offered when I log into my account. I can either stay on the flexible or go to fixed, which when the prices probably come down in Spring I would have to pay a £75 fee x 2 to come out.MultiFuelBurner said:
Have you bever heard of tracker with Octopus?hubb said:Just stay on the Flexible Octopus. Not worth changing tariff as you don't gain anything.
I find it amazing that someone on a money saving site that you don't know about saving 20-30% off your energy bills.
There is no option showing for a tracker.0 -
If you’ve explored the octopus website and understood the prices, potential gains, risks, and limitations of alternative tariffs (or gathered the info from other sources), you can call them, email, contact via X/twitter and ask them to move you to a suitable tariff.hubb said:

To go onto the tracker you have to have a smart meter which we do not want under any circumstances.ecraig said:

It's the energy usage that prices are going up, not the standing charges. If we fixed we could find ourselves locked in when all energy prices may fall, or other companies are offering more competitive fixed deals.
If there were these other options you mention, why can't I see them on the website ? No way of talking to them today as they are not open to live chat Sat/Sun0 -
Sounds like you can’t have these tariffs then, because you don’t want to have a smart meter.hubb said:

No point wasting your time contacting them about a smart tariff when you don’t want to be tied to a smart meter. But here’s a link if you want to investigate the range of smart tariffs:
https://octopus.energy/octopus-smart-tariffs/
If you fix you are taking on a gamble, which may or may not work in your favour. Like, for example if you fix your mortgage and the base rate decreases.
The alternative ways of contacting them is specified on their website. Maybe you need to scroll down and read again. You’ll also note a link on that page to twitter/X. You can click on the link and a website opens up and on this website you can send them messages. Quite smart really.
but, if you are dismissive of smart (which I detect you are), it’s pointless to even read information, ask questions or waste anyone’s time about a smart meter tariff if you categorically don’t want a clever meter.3 -
@hubb: I had similar reservations about smart meters before joining Tracker. I now adopt a belt + braces approach and submit manual readings also on the relevant date. I believe these take precedence over the smart meter's.
The choices are to "go flexible" and accept the fluctuations, or "go fixed" and lose out on the potential benefits.
I think you can join Tracker by making a simple phone call.
Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know3 -
We have always submitted readings every month at the same date. We are very careful what we use (not much gas due to open fire and log burner) Even if we wanted a smart meter (and we don't, and have friends who regret having them) my area has no available spaces.Telegraph_Sam said:@hubb: I had similar reservations about smart meters before joining Tracker. Perhaps if I message them on X they may offer us something without having a pseudo "smart" or "clever" meter.0 -

If we fixed we could find ourselves locked in when all energy prices may fall, or other companies are offering more competitive fixed deals. It has been both the energy unit price and the standing charge that have been going up, and Ofgem intends to add even more on to the standing charge in future to cover the cost of pursuing customers who cannot or will not pay their bills. I would agree with you that fixing with exit fees is not likely to be the best option at the moment, but the Tracker tariff is fixed term, not fixed price (price updates every day according to the wholesale price), and has no exit fees, so there is no lock in.
If you've clicked the links provided to the Octopus website and still cannot see these options, then maybe get someone else to have a look for you as the information is right there available to see for those who are willing to see it.hubb said:If there were these other options you mention, why can't I see them on the website ? That would be a waste of time I'm afraid. My advice is stick with Flexible until such time as you are willing and able to meet the requirements of one of the cheaper smart tariffs.hubb said:
