Would cheaper energy price not benefit you? If not, then that's all good, but this is a forum about moneysaving, so don't be surprised if others want to reduce their bills, and having done so, are advocating it.hubb said:
I don't have any fears, I just don't like being forced into something that won't necessarily benefit me other than fulfilling a meaningless agenda. I shall look at other tracker tariffs on other providers that won't demand you have a smarty pants meter.BellaBlondykeTheThird said:@hubbYep, I see your caps work , SO DO MINE! You are all obviously in the smart tracker club but I will trust the article over a few on this forum. If you want to stay deluded that smart meters will save the world then good for you.
I have had a look at your profile and threads and posts and you seem to take advice from other knowledgeable people on the other sections of the MSE forum.
Why would you dismiss what this whole thread is about (all 448 pages) and the savings that can be made explained by the knowledgeable people here. This is MSE after all and many her can attest to saving 20-40% of their energy costs in the past 365 days.
There is obviously something behind your distrust of smart meters so why don't you fill us in on your fears?

Sadly it is only the innovative Cephalopod supplier that offers a Tracker tariff.hubb said:

That said other suppliers have purchased Octopus Kraken billing and customer service system so who knows what the future may hold.
What is clear however is that many suppliers were fined for not meeting smart meter fitment quotas so it's unlikely they will give cheaper energy to those that won't scratch their back.0 -
You see It's all about control. Ok, I admit I have been having a bit of playful fun here so sorry if I have ruffled feathers but I have genuinely looked into this and just can't decide, even if I went over to the dark side and conceded to a you know what. Too late now anyway as I missed the early Dec deals.

Tariffs where the price changes frequently require close monitoring of usage, which a smart meter provides.Past performance is no guide to the future and all that, but here are the unit rates for Flexible (red) and Tracker (green) for my region over the past month. This was a cheap month, but generally over the past year there have been only a few days where Tracker hasn't been a fair bit cheaper than Flexible. Bottom graph shows the whole year for Tracker elec green vs gas orange:

It seems region dependent really. Also, usage times of the day/night seem to be of essence factoring rates.masonic said:hubb said:

All tariffs are region dependent. Some households pay higher prices than others depending on where they live due to distribution costs. As far as I can see the regional variations in Tracker reflect regional variations in price capped tariffs. It is not true that "usage times of the day/night" make any difference. The Tracker price is based on the day ahead wholesale price and doesn't vary over the course of a day. It is the same between midnight and midnight the next day. To be fair to the article, it doesn't suggest otherwise. A similar tariff where time of day does matter is Agile, where the price changes every 30 minutes.hubb said:It seems region dependent really. Usage times o the day/night: No.
If you want to debate tracker, why not take a little effort to understand tracker first?
I've been on tracker since Jan 23. Every day has been less than the standard tarriff. I'm expecting some days where it goes higher, but given the savings I've made so far, I doubt I'll lose any money overall.4 -
We don't need to read an article telling us about the tariff we live with and know very well, probably better than the authors of the article.hubb said:

If you still decide that one article is more trustworthy than all the people on this thread who are or have been on the tariff and saved a fortune, I'll dry my tears with the £1,000+ we've saved just this year (updated numbers to be crunched soon … ).7 -
That's how percentages work.hubb said:
Wow, so now we have gone from 20-30% to 40% I might genuinely look into this gift that keeps on giving.milo_2020 said:Can we ban this guy so the thread stops getting clogged up with someone celebrating paying 40% extra on their bills ?
I'm done here. Wishing everyone a good new year (and yes I do genuinely mean it)
If something is £100 and I get 30% off, it reduces to £70.
If you insist on paying £100, you are paying just over 40% more than me. (40% of £70 being £28).3 -
It doesn't. Does that article you keep linking say that it does? Sounds like a reason to check the actual tariff yourself.
If you actually want to find out then ask away. If your aim is just an anti-smart meter rant then this isnt the best place for it.3
