I'm pleasantly surprised by the first working day of the year, although it looks downhill from here as temperatures drop and wind subsides.

To be fair I have just gone to the Octopus site and got a quote for their tracker tariff after giving a meter reading. "Your quote is accurate as of the time of sending"

    £164.60 a month

Currently paying £130 per month and still £272 in credit so it's an absolute no no for me.
It is impossible to get an accurate quote for a tariff where the price is not known in advance. Octopus doesn't know what the price will be beyond tomorrow. Also you can change your direct debit if it is too high (the fact it is suggests Octopus isn't accurately estimating your usage). But I think you are right that this tariff is an absolute no no for you. You should never sign up to something you don't understand.
I understand it thanks but as I am already a customer for 2 years they should know my stats. If they can't get an accurate tariff after giving them end of month readings every month then its a poor show.

Tracker changes every day, you provide them monthly reads at the moment, they can't realistically know what your daily stats are, but if you had a smart meter then they would know your stats. Even so they can't know what the daily tariff is beyond the next day.

I’m trying to sign up to this tarriff but when I get a quote it doesn’t offer me this.
the front page says something about joining the waitlist.

    can someone explain please.
do I need to switch on a variable tarrif first and then go on a waitlist?
    it’s not clear.
    thankyou

What tariff are you currently on?

Maybe use X (formerly known as prince...I mean twitter) they may have started a waiting list again but twitter normally gets a quick result.

If you are currently with another supplier then you would need to switch onto an interim tariff like Flexible until they have connected to your smart meter and are able to pull your usage data from it. If you are already with Octopus and have a working smart meter, then there isn't currently a wait list, so you can register and wait for them to process your request, or register and then ping them on Twitter to get them on the case faster.

What unit price was that Tracker quote based on?

Your £130/m equates to around 4,700 kWh/year (depending in your region). At the Tracker prices we've seen from Feb to end of November that comes to around £97/month using current Tracker S/C and formula (existing customers have paid less)

If a visualisation helps anybody to understand how much cheaper Tracker can be, I swapped from Flexible to Tracker for electricity in November, and gas on 11th December. The rates are now a little more expensive than these for new customers swapping onto the Tracker tariff, but I'm certainly glad I took the plunge. Even paying £75 to ditch the fix I took on gas. These are from the Octo-Aid app.
