What happens when Octopus hit the change everyone to the new fixed tracker tariff in the new year and they are still on dumb meters. The December 2023 v1 clearly states smart meters are a requirement.
Either the dumb meter customers get swtched over, or they get kicked off the tariff.

They will get kicked off the tariff onto Flexible Octopus tariff. This happened to me early this year when my renewal came up and I didn't have a smart meter.
Well that is definitive then, from the horse's mouth so to speak.

Did you then get a smart meter and then rejoin Tracker?

Not really, when my Tracker tariff v3 came to the end of its term earlier this year, I got it renewed on the v3 for another fixed term. I don't have smart meters.

    Octopus: are consistently inconsistent.
That could be Octopus' next tagline.  :)

Yes, it seems to be a fair point :-) I guess the chopping and changing and rationalising tariffs at the moment is intended to tidy everything up and provide a higher degree of consistency.
The Octopus customer service set up isn't geared to deliver consistent results, each team of 10 is largely autonomous and empowered to make decisions. Inconsistency is inevitable, but it does make things interesting.
  • I get the distinct impression that the posting on HotUKDeals twice caught Octopus off-guard and they don't want it to happen a third time. I wonder from the posts we've seen today whether existing customers prior to a set date (probably the one where they introduced the mandatory smart meter requirement including myself) will be moved to Flexible after the notice period and will have to re-apply to rejoin Tracker from the back of the queue with more stringent requirements in order to lower the numbers of people on it and dissuade people from being on the tariff.

I've received an email reply today saying they were unable to backdate my switch from fixed to tracker (requested on the afternoon of 11th) onto the old tariff and I can reverse back onto the fixed if I wanted to, as they can't make changes for individual customers. I haven't replied as I don't want them to look at my account again, as they'd already swapped me onto the old rate.....

Just looking at the latest wind energy forecasts it's looking like we're in for a week or so of very low prices - this has been mentioned before but look again if you haven't checked for a few days :-) There are some nights when nearly all demand is expected to be met by wind power:

Are the new standing charges published anywhere?

Just doing a comparison, since I joined Tracker my overall average unit price comes out 11p less than SVR, so after the price rise this would have still been 8p.

Reworking my time as if these prices were in effect, and assuming  S/C becomes the same as SVR my overall saving would have been just over 20%.

I haven't seen them published in a table but they are available via the API (I assume you are referring to the Tracker standing charges from 11th December and not the SVR etc. standing charges that will take effect from January? )

In order to get the standing charges from the API you have to do it region by region and I'm not sure of all the codes.

I guess you could also find them by getting a quote for available tariffs for a given postcode but not a very convenient way of finding them either.

The All Our Tariffs page (enter postcode but don't click the 'Get a quote' button) is a bit easier to navigate these days as it has a text filter.

14.7p/kWh for East Midlands tomorrow if I've done the sums correctly - let the bargain price period begin :-)

Hmm. East Midlands is a slightly more expensive region than mine and I worked tomorrow out to 15.13p

I requested to be moved to Tracker last week but I'm still waiting for them to do it. Should they honour the previous formula or put me on the new more expensive one?

I have been waiting close to 4 weeks since requesting to go on a tracker and I had an email on the 1st december confirming my requestion never told me when I was getting put on the tracker just that I would have to wait up to 2 weeks to leave it!!!
I requested to go on tracker via the form on the website and sent an email chasing after a week (because I'm impatient!) and they switched me that same day. Bit annoying how inconsistent it is.

I sent an email last night and asked when will be put on the tracker and that I should be on the old prices and not new prices.  So we shall see what happens
