Far cheaper than I ever thought we would pay in December.on top of that it looks like despite the cold start we will use slightly less energy this year and that's without cutting back as much as we did last year.. And to make it even better the rate for East Midlands tomorrow is 13.32p/kWh - remembering to include the VAT today but probably introducing another error instead :-)0 -
G3.99p & E13.01p tomorrow. can i fix at these now please? might we get another sub E10p day next week? possible.1

It would be a lovely Christmas present if we could have cheap electricity on Christmas Day. I use both of my ovens plus a slow cooker, microwave and Ninja for hours that day. I didn’t have smart meters last year therefore my usage was averaged so it didn’t all get allocated to the one day. I can’t get away with that this year.2

Gas is 4.16p here in Southern region. I know 0.17p isn't really worth arguing over, but psychologically there's a big difference between "over 4p" and "under 4p"

Just taken the plunge. What's the reason for it taking weeks for them to switch me over though? Is it just because of the resource it takes to do the admin? I am a little bit scared about sudden spikes and having to come off the thing. Does it take no longer than 2 weeks, or could it be longer if everybody started doing it at the same time?
Would switching to another supplier in that situation be a better option, or would exit fees make it better to switch to another Octopus tariff? And can you go back on the price cap rather than another fixed rate?
Finally, I'm reading that electricity has been much cheaper all year on this tariff - if that's the case, why hasn't the elec price cap dropped very much?0 -

They have been backdating for some customers. Nobody knows what would happen if a large number of people tried to change at the same time, and it might be the case that a supplier switch could be faster, but a long spell of high prices seems unlikely. There are no exit fees.Tracker is based on the day ahead price of supplying the energy, whereas price-capped tariffs are based on the price of forward supply contracts extending much further into the future. There is a cost associated with buying ahead at a hedged price and those selling the energy will want to ensure all risks are priced in.2 -

I switched earlier in the week for gas and it was sorted for the following day. My electricity switch done last month was in one day also. It'll probably be much quicker than 2 weeks, but they're giving themselves that timescale should they need it I think.
